A little change to your route, but business as usual! 🚧

Halifax Borough Market is carrying out some much-needed refurbishment to the Market Arcade, so this entrance will be closed for six weeks.

But don’t fret! The entrances on Southgate, Market Street and Albion Street are all still open. 🙌

All businesses in the arcade remain open too, so please keep popping in and supporting!

🚧 Market Arcade entrance closure.

From today, 1 September, the Market Arcade entrance will be temporarily closed for 6 weeks. This is so we can install modern, fully glazed automatic doors to make access easier for everyone as part of the Halifax Future High Streets project.

The market and all businesses in the arcade remain open as usual and we look forward to welcoming you.

Please use other entrances on Market Street and Southgate while works are underway.

This week, Chris has been tackling graffiti across Halifax town centre! 💪

A key priority has been cleaning up graffiti on buildings and the premises of our levy-paying businesses, including Galactic Golf and Clip 'n Climb Halifax on Horton Street, helping to improve the appearance of their exteriors.

He’s also been tackling the speed limit and information signs at the bottom of Horton Street, along with the doorways next to Retro Station Halifax .

And of course, alongside these larger jobs, Chris has continued his regular rounds across key areas of the town centre; removing litter, defaced stickers and helping to keep our streets and public spaces looking their best.

It’s all part of the ongoing work being carried out by Halifax BID to help keep our town centre welcoming, clean and cared for!

Sophie from Oh So Glow and Oh So Tanned is backing the BID 2026!

As the owner of two businesses on Commercial Street, Sophie understands the importance of building a relationship with the BID and making use of the support available.

But that wasn’t always the case.

When Sophie first began paying the BID levy, she wasn’t sure what it was, why she had to pay it or what she received in return. So, rather than staying unsure, she came into the Discover Halifax Hub and spoke to the team.

Sophie said:

“I didn’t understand what the BID levy was or why I had to pay it, so I went down to the Discover Halifax Hub to speak to the team. They explained exactly what was included in my levy and the support available to my business.

Since that first conversation, I’ve felt incredibly supported. I’ve made use of the Event Match Funding and Shop Front Improvement Scheme, both of which have enabled me to invest in my business and create exterior branding that I simply wouldn’t have been able to achieve otherwise.”

Sophie’s experience is also an important reminder to businesses: if you’re unsure about your levy, what it funds or what support is available to you, come and speak to us.

This October, Halifax businesses will vote on another five years of Halifax BID, and Sophie will be voting YES to its renewal! 💜

Join us today as our Sea Shanty Singers roam Halifax town centre, bringing plenty of pirate songs and swashbuckling fun along the way!

It’s completely free, so come along, catch the crew at one of their stops and enjoy some live sea shanties! 🎶🏴‍☠️

SPOTTED ON THE TRAIL! 🏴‍☠️👀

We got quite the surprise when this crew of young buccaneers turned up at the Discover Halifax Hub to tell us how much they’ve been enjoying our Lost Loot Treasure Trail!

They’ve loved exploring different parts of Halifax, collecting their loot and visiting the friendly businesses taking part along the way. 💜

We also have to say just how polite and well-mannered they all were! It’s been so lovely seeing so many children and families out enjoying the trail this summer.

And the pirate fun isn’t over yet…
