Initially only sustainable hard wood timber has been purchased to produce a premium product. It is Holderness logs intention to continue supplying hardwood logs, however this will depend on the availability , as sustaina

ble soft wood is more readily available. To ensure the quality of the logs, as well as being sourced sustainably, they are seasoned naturally. The logs are initially split using a purpose built log splitter into 2.5 to 3 metre lengths known as billets, are then stored in a covered open sided barn. Keeping them in long lengths enables them to be easily handled using a hydraulic grab and also allows the maximum amount of air flow through when they are stacked so that they season properly. After seasoning down to below 20%, tested using a moisture meter, they are then cut and further split to the requirements of the customer and put into ventilated bulk bags. Delivery is by a small flat back truck with a crane fitted to drop the bags where required by the customer. Supplying in bulk bags has been chosen to enable customers to get the benefits of buying in bulk for economy with the bulk bag being recycleable. There is a £5 charge for the bag which is refundable if returned, or the logs can be emptied out of the bag when delivered. Delivery is free in a 10 mile radius (Hornsea, Spurn, Hedon).

If you are looking to have your firewood logs delivered just where you want them maybe we can help. Our Nissan Cabstar delivery truck is narrower than your typical delivery vehicle meaning that it can fit down 10 foots, up the narrowest driveways and into the trickiest of spaces. Our crane is telescopic so we can drop the bag just where you want it and because it is sat at the back of the truck we can get bags even into garages. Let us know if your delivery address is tricky too maybe we can help.

Holderness Logs – New Ownership

As you will have read on the previous post about Steve’s decision to sell Holderness Logs and pursue other interests. As of 1st April 2019, the Hodgson family, namely its business I. M. Hodgson & Son Ltd has purchased Holderness Logs from Steve’s business S J Biglin Ltd. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Steve for his hard work and help assuring that the transfer of the business has been seamless meaning you the customer will not be affected.

So who are we? Like Steve, the Hodgson family are farmers and have diversified their farming enterprises over recent years. Not only do we grow a range of crops and keep livestock but established the Great Newsome Brewery, Little Otchan Shepherds Hut and generate solar energy. Holderness logs will move just a short distance, still in the same village of Halsham but to Hall Farm, HU12 0BT just off the B1362.
