A rather good-looking Gretsch passed through my hands recently, and for once I wasn’t working on a neglected or ruined guitar.

However, despite being new, the fretboard was parched, and the fret ends were in need of rounding over. The frets themselves had a few high spots, but nothing that affected playability.

Issues sorted, it’s now back in the hands of owner, and in time for their birthday 🙂

This was a first, as I’ve never played a banjo, let alone had to return one to a working state. Years of loft storage had taken its toll. Yet, despite the filth (including cobwebs within the body), it was salvageable. In addition to fixing it up, the owner provided a new 5th string capo for installation. A lot of work, but a pleasing end result.

This Faith electro-acoustic had all sorts of issues: lifting frets, damage to the top, loose nut, as well as needing a proper clean. However, its greatest problem was it kept eating batteries. I traced this back to the XLR connection at the output; one of the pins was in constant contact with the earth/ground, leading to even a fresh battery draining quickly, despite no guitar cable being plugged in.

As you’ll see in the latter photos the guitar is now fixed up and looking good.

I’ve recently replaced the stock bridge pickup in a Schecter Diamond Series T-type with a T90 from Axesrus.

Click the link below to hear how the guitar sounds before and after the change.

A client came to me in November 2025 to inspect and set up his Schecter Diamond Series T-type guitar. Once the work was done, I mentioned that the bridge pic...

Currently servicing an Ibanez RG370 from 2018. Interesting engineering when it comes to their take on a Floyd Rose-style bridge. However, this example made the most appalling creaking noises whenever you used it - genuinely, it was louder than the rest of the guitar. The springs were responsible, and have now been silenced accordingly (which isn’t as sinister as it sounds).

Dialling in the final thickness of this handmade neck pocket shim for the Squier Mustang. The tools are old, not unlike the operator… 😊

A short clip from the video demo of the 1959 Hofner Club 60 I had repaired recently.

If you'd like to watch the whole video - something I recommend thoroughly - you can find it via this link:

I had this 2011 Squier Vintage Modified Jazz in over the weekend. Nice instrument, but needing a proper set-up, so Fender factory specs have now been applied. The fret ends and fretboard edges were sharp, so both have been rolled.

If you want to see and hear the end result, you're in luck, for there's a video below, and it's less than two minutes long 🙂

This Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass from 2011 came to me in need of a set-up, so I configured it to Fender's own specs. I also removed the sharp fret ends...
