Sometimes it all starts with a single call.

Back in January, we took a call at head office from a local business just a few minutes away. They had been let down by their previous provider and were looking for a reliable alternative.

From that initial conversation, things moved quickly and we began supporting their logistics site in March, adding it to our portfolio.

The site already had CCTV in place, which we have since taken over the monitoring of. We also introduced regular mobile patrols, ensuring a service that had previously been agreed contractually but not consistently delivered is now firmly in place.

As a site local to our head office, it has been great to get up and running quickly and provide a dependable service. It also marked the first of our sites to feature our updated warning signage.

Most importantly, it has been amazing to hear such positive feedback early on, with the client noting that SGC have "already gone above and beyond".

We welcomed nearly 300 professionals to a session focused on one of the biggest shifts in public safety legislation in recent years.

In partnership with Kettering General Hospital, we hosted a live session on Martyn’s Law and what it will mean for both NHS organisations and those responsible for security and public safety more widely.

With contributions from leading voices, including Figen Murray OBE, the session brought together the human story behind the legislation and the practical reality of what preparing for it actually looks like on the ground. We explored what the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 requires, why healthcare and publicly accessible environments are firmly in scope, and the real operational challenges organisations are likely to face.

A major focus of the discussion was how organisations can begin taking practical, proportionate steps now, without adding unnecessary pressure to already stretched teams, and how stronger preparedness ultimately improves safety, confidence and resilience for staff, patients and the public.

The key message was clear: this is not just about compliance, it is about readiness.

In the aftermath of a busy bank holiday weekend, we want to take a moment to recognise and thank all of our teams who were working across both events and core sites.

While many were enjoying the sunshine, our SGC teams were on the ground, supporting events and maintaining essential site operations, often for long hours and in challenging heat. From managing busy crowds to ensuring day-to-day safety and continuity across sites, your work played a vital role in keeping people safe and operations running smoothly.

We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved and truly grateful for the hard work, energy and professionalism shown by everyone involved.

A key strength of our Martyn’s Law and the NHS webinar was the depth of experience shared by our speakers.

We were privileged to hear from Figen Murray OBE, public safety campaigner and counter terrorism expert, alongside Satia Rai, CEO of the International Professional Security Association, and Michael Kill, CEO of the Night Time Industries Association and CTBIE Board Member. Their combined perspectives brought valuable insight into the intent behind Martyn’s Law and how it can be applied in real-world settings.

The session was hosted by our Managing Director Paul Macarthur, with further contributions from Darren Barber, Security Manager at Kettering General Hospital, and Nhamo Pazvakavambwa, Associate Director of Safeguarding at Kettering General Hospital.

Together, their insights helped translate Martyn’s Law from legislation into something practical, relevant and actionable for NHS environments, resulting in a hugely valuable discussion.

Today marks nine years since the Manchester Arena attack.

On the 22nd May 2017, 22 innocent people lost their lives and many others were injured in what remains one of the most devastating acts of terrorism in the UK.

Nine years on, we pause to remember every life lost, every family changed forever, and every community affected by that night.

Recently, we had the privilege of hearing from Figen Murray OBE, whose son Martyn was one of the 22 victims. Listening to her speak about that day, and the journey that followed, was deeply moving. What stood out most was not only the unimaginable loss she has endured, but the strength and determination she has shown in turning that loss into lasting change.

Her work has helped bring about Martyn’s Law, ensuring that public spaces are better prepared and that lives may be protected in the future, a powerful legacy built on love, resilience and purpose.

Today is a moment for reflection, but also a reminder of why our work in safety and security matters. We remain committed to playing our part in creating safer environments and protecting the public.

We remember. We stand together. We continue forward.

A few moments from last week’s session with Kettering General Hospital.

Bringing together nearly 300 professionals from across the NHS and the security sector for a focused discussion on Martyn’s Law was a significant milestone.

It was particularly encouraging to see senior leadership from University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Trust in attendance, including Andrew Moore (Group Chair), Polly Grimmett (Director of Strategy) and Trevor Shipman (Non-Executive Director).

The level of engagement in the room reflected just how important this topic is becoming for healthcare organisations.

Following the session, it was also valuable for our guest speakers to spend time on site at Kettering General Hospital, meeting the SGC security team and NHS staff, and seeing first-hand how these environments operate.

One of the most important takeaways from last week’s session was a simple one.

Many NHS organisations are only just beginning to explore what Martyn’s Law means for them in practice.

Until now, much of the focus has understandably been on crowded venues like stadiums and event spaces. But healthcare environments present their own unique challenges and require their own approach to preparedness.

It was encouraging to see so many NHS and security professionals coming together to start that conversation in a practical and meaningful way.

Yesterday we were proud to deliver the 'Martyn’s Law and the NHS: Practical Awareness and Preparedness' webinar in partnership with Kettering General Hospital.

With close to 300 attendees joining from across the NHS and the security sector, it is clear there is a real appetite to better understand what Martyn’s Law will mean in a healthcare setting.

Much of the conversation around Martyn’s Law to date has focused on traditional crowded spaces such as arenas and stadiums. What stood out yesterday was just how relevant and important this conversation is for the NHS.

In the security industry, many roles involve working alone and facing situations that can be challenging, unpredictable and, at times, confrontational. As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, we want to reinforce our support for the No Guard Alone campaign and the important message behind it.

Research into the UK security sector has highlighted the scale of these challenges. A study of over 750 operatives found that many regularly experience verbal abuse, threats and physical violence, with 39.3% showing symptoms consistent with post-traumatic stress disorder.

These findings reflect the reality of roles where exposure to conflict and difficult situations is not occasional, but part of day-to-day work.

At SGC Security Services, we recognise this and the responsibility that comes with supporting the people who carry out these roles. No one should feel isolated or unsupported at work. Supporting mental wellbeing means creating an environment where people feel able to speak up, access support and know they are not facing things alone.
