Yesterday i decided to take on a little project, i was given some old power tools a customer didnt want, in the set was a hitachi 240v grinder which as someone that repairs things even i would have thrown away, i decided to open it up and see if i could fix it and inside it was just full of soil and rust as if it had been buried for the soil to water in and set, i didnt expect it to be fixable but gave it a go, after few hours of scrubbing and cleaning all the internals i put it back together and tested it, nothing, this morning i checked the continuity from the plug to the tool and the neutral wasnt connected, rewired it and it runs perfect, didnt get a lot of pictures but enough to give an idea of the state it was in, not a penny spent, video of it working in comments as couldnt post with pics

Been a long time since i posted anything on here so i thought i would share a little tip, had a customer bring me a chainsaw that was puzzling everyone, carb was in good condition, has a consistent spark and is fuelling perfectly fine, tested the compression and it was holding max pressure, tried adjusting the fuel and air mix, tried fresh fuel, tried everything but still wouldnt fire up, was about to admit defeat and decided to check the exhaust, upon removing the exhaust i can see the piston is badly scatched which means the whole top end needs replacing, sadly this is one of the worst things to discover in any engine and can be quite expensive to replace, most tools the exhaust is visible and is only held in by 2 or 3 nuts, checking this for yourself can save you paying for the time a repair shop will spend finding the fault, be careful when removing these nuts as they rust over time and can easily snap, use a wire brush to clean threads before attempting to loosen and a drop of oil helps too
