To celebrate we would like to introduce you to our Head of Wellbeing, Jasper.

Jasper is a rescue dog from the streets of Hungary but his tough start in life has not stopped him from being a loving, happy and gentle dog who we love having on the team!

Nobody tells you when employment law changes.

You have to go looking for it yourself, and even then, most of what you find tells you what's changing, not what to actually do about it.

That's usually the hard part.

Knowing something's changed is one thing. Knowing what to put in your handbook, how to word a contract, or what to say if something comes up - that's rarely spelled out anywhere.

Be honest, when did you last actually look at your staff contracts or handbook? For most business owners it's one of those jobs that never quite gets to the top of the list.

It's worth noting though, that from October, staff will have twice as long to bring a claim against an employer (going from 3 months to 6). So more of a reason to get things looked at sooner rather than later.

Big changes are coming to UK employment law this October. Is your business ready?

The Employment Rights Act 2025 is rolling out in stages through 2026 and 2027 and the next wave lands this October!

Three changes every Harrogate employer should know about:

🔹 Sexual Harassment prevention - employers duty to prevent sexual harassment strengthens from "reasonable steps" to "all reasonable steps”. Third parties such as customers and suppliers now also need to be considered.

🔹 Tribunal time limits - the window for staff to bring most claims doubles from 3 to 6 months.

🔹 Trade union rights - new requirements around written statements and workplace access (some exemptions apply for smaller employers).

Over the next few weeks we'll be breaking each of these down - what they actually mean day-to-day, and what you can do now rather than in a scramble come September.
