Why do we meet every Friday morning?

Sometimes the most valuable business lessons have very little to do with sales, marketing or growth.

At last Friday’s meeting, we heard about dementia through the experiences of families living with it every day.

The presentation helped us understand the realities, challenges and emotions that people affected by dementia can face, not just those living with the condition, but also the family members who support them.

It was a powerful reminder that dementia touches far more lives than we often realise.

The session prompted us to reflect on a simple but important question: what can we do, as individuals and as businesses, to make our communities more dementia-friendly?

This morning, we tried something a little different at Harrogate Business Group.

Instead of our usual 60-second business pitch, we shared our goals, both business and personal.

It was interesting to hear about each member’s growth plans, ambitions and challenges, as well as their health goals, family priorities and personal milestones.

It was a reminder that businesses don't build relationships. People do.

Understanding what matters to someone beyond their job title helps create stronger connections, deeper trust and a more supportive business community.

Sometimes the most valuable conversations start when we stop talking about what we do and start talking about why we do it.
