With all this good weather we’ve been having recently, we’ve been thinking a lot about how our outdoor flooring can help adapt outside urban spaces into multi-use sport facilities.

If you are in the midst of trying to work out what you need for your outdoor sports area and you are getting a bit lost with all the different flooring under then your first port of call is safety and durability. Modern surfacing systems should provide essential cushioning protection for players’ joints and ligaments. They should also provide other benefits, including being played on under almost all weather conditions and reducing noise levels for neighbours.

One of our favourite products we use when installing outdoor sports flooring is PORTEC UNI Versa because of its versatile performance surface for outdoor sport and play areas. It’s a highly resilient, durable sports surface and is often combined with a well-engineered elastic layer to improve shock absorbing qualities and play characteristics of the area. It’s suitable for a range of school sports including volleyball, handball, basketball or tennis, recreational sports facilities, and multi-use games areas.

Have you ever wondered how cinemas isolate one screen from another so you can enjoy your film without being bothered by what’s going on in the room next door?

As cinemas have recently reopened we thought we’d share one of our projects we worked on so you can see what goes on behind the scenes.

As part of the Market Walk Chorley extension plans, TVS Group ensured that 6 screen cinema’s acoustic requirements were met and that adjacent businesses would not be adversely affected by any noise. The construction of the auditoria walls, vomitory walls, and timber seating was to be completed at a later date as part of the fit-out procedure by Reel Cinema. And so the floating floor design had to be carefully installed to accommodate these additional loadings, which would all be supported off the floated slab.

To celebrate group fitness and studios opening up again we wanted to highlight the work we did in the centre of Birmingham, for BLAZE Studio, which is now open for business again for anyone in the local area.

The space is the first stand-alone HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) Centre for David Lloyd Clubs who have large network of UK and European Clubs.

David Loyds Clubs wanted the studio to specialise in dynamic fast-paced HIIT sessions involving Cardio, Strength and Combat sessions synced to high energy music. The studio is also slap bang in the heart of the city’s business district and so had several potential acoustic issues to resolve before opening its doors to the HIIT loving public.

Acoustic Engineering Consultants Cundall and Main Contractor DDI Projects called on our Acoustic flooring specialists to address the key areas of concern. We installed TVS RESI Dry Floating Floor System throughout the project area and even isolated individual boxing bags using specially designed isolation pads. Our installation also decoupled the walls of the gym to prevent any noise transfer to adjoining properties.

More than 80% research papers reviewed for the study below reported a link between outdoor activities and positive mental health outcomes, while none reported a single negative mental health result. The most common positive benefits seen were significant reductions in stress and anxiety after time spent in nature, as well as increased positive affect, or elevated mood.
