Today, we remember our former colleague and friend, Jock Brown, as we say our final farewell to him.

Jock was a valued member of our team, and his loss is deeply felt by everyone who had the pleasure of working alongside him. His friendship, character and presence will be remembered fondly, and he will be greatly missed.

As Jockโ€™s family, friends, colleagues and loved ones come together today for his funeral, our thoughts are very much with them.

Rest in peace, Jock. You will never be forgotten. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Congratulations to Evie on her hero of the month award ๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Congratulations to Evija (Evie) Bekere who is a Podiatry inpatient assistant at Eastbourne DGH, for winning a Hero of the Month award.

Colleague Ellie Reeder who nominated Evija said:

"Evie goes above and beyond in her role as Podiatry inpatient assistant. She is an asset to our team and truly a delight to work with. She is the first one in and last to leave down at Eastbourne DGH Area D Podiatry department.

"Evie is a staple in keeping our Podiatry clinics running, the Foot Protection clinic, the Diabetic foot clinics and the inpatient podiatry rounds. Evies main role is as an assistant in the above clinics, but she also runs a productive and successful Foot screening inpatient service and nailcare service, for patients admitted within EDGH, and can see 10 or more patients a day, 5 days a week and risk assess their feet in terms of diabetic foot ulcer prevention.

"During these rounds, she advocates for patients in preventing pressure sores, ensuring they are wearing appropriate stockings, if medically indicated, is often the first person to assess patients feet during their admission, and provides nail care, usually with added feet washing and moisturising on her rounds. She works hard, daily.

"Evie also is paramount in ensuring we as Podiatrists have the stock and equipment we need in order to run our clinics effectively, safely and efficiently. Evie makes time in her role to help rotate, order and organise stock within our clinics. She also helps identify issues with equipment and report these.

"During Diabetic foot clinics, which are infamous for being busy and full on clinics, knowing Evie is one of two assistants alongside us, gives you instant peace of mind as you know she will help anyway she can, and just makes the day so much smoother and organised.

"Recently, Evie saw a patient who was in the process of being fast tracked discharged to a nursing home, and she did a final visit with them in the discharge lounge to do a final check.

"The patient had had unknown trauma to the foot that morning and sustained a skin tear to their foot, which had not been noticed and on her seeing them, had bled all over their foot and bed sheet. Evie alerted the ward to this and assisted in cleaning the patient up and dressing the foot, and then organised for a podiatrist to visit the nursing home the following day. I was the podiatrist who visited, and the patient was incredibly grateful for the time and care evie had put in to tidy them and their foot up the day prior.

"Evie truly is an asset to our podiatry team and I feel she should be celebrated for her hard work, dedication, kindness and how she goes above and beyond for both patients, and her colleagues.

"It is a gift to our team to have her with us."

Evie was presented with a certificate and voucher by Chair Steve Phoenix.

Our services are extremely busy. Please support us by only attending our emergency departments for serious or life-threatening emergencies. Please consider other health services, such as your GP, pharmacies or NHS 111. This helps ensure that our hospitals can care for those who need them most.

โ˜€๏ธ Stay Safe. Stay Cool. Look Out For Each Other. โ˜€๏ธ

As the warmer weather continues, our Continental Security Services teams remain present 24/7 across East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (ESHT) sites, supporting staff, patients, and visitors and helping to maintain safe healthcare environments.

During periods of hot weather, we encourage everyone to take simple steps to look after themselves and those around them:

๐Ÿ’ง Stay hydrated โ€“ drink plenty of water throughout the day and donโ€™t wait until you feel thirsty.
๐ŸŒค๏ธ Stay cool โ€“ take regular breaks where possible, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and use cooler areas when needed.
๐Ÿงด Protect yourself โ€“ wear suitable clothing, use sun protection, and be mindful of the signs of heat-related illness.
๐Ÿค Look out for others โ€“ check in on colleagues, patients, visitors, and anyone who may need additional support.

We also want to remind everyone that our hospitals must remain safe and respectful environments for all. Violence, aggression, abuse, or threatening behaviour towards NHS staff, patients, visitors, or security colleagues will not be tolerated. Such behaviour is unacceptable and will be addressed appropriately.

Our security teams are here around the clock to support, protect, and provide reassurance across ESHT sites. We ask everyone to work with us by showing kindness, patience, and respect.

Thank you to all NHS colleagues for the incredible work you continue to do every day โ€” whatever the weather.

๐Ÿš—๐ŸŒก๏ธ Please donโ€™t leave dogs in cars during hot weather ๐Ÿพ

With temperatures reaching 30ยฐC and above, it continues to shock our Security Officers and NHS staff how many dogs we find left in vehicles across our car parks.

Even with windows left open or the car parked in the shade, temperatures inside a vehicle can rise to dangerous levels within minutes, putting dogs at serious risk of heatstroke, dehydration and even death.

If you are attending an appointment, visiting a patient or coming to work, please make alternative arrangements for your pet and never leave them unattended in your vehicle during warm weather.

A car is never a safe place for a dog in extreme heat.

Please help us spread this message and keep our four-legged friends safe this summer. ๐Ÿถโ˜€๏ธ
