Today our Security Officers Josh & John had the pleasure of speaking with two pilots from the Air Ambulance team and were even given the opportunity to have a look around the helicopter. 🚁

Whenever the helicopter lands on site, our officers work closely alongside the Porters team to assist with road closures and help direct members of the public safely away from the landing area.

Many people don’t realise just how powerful the wind from the helicopter can be, so ensuring everyone’s safety during landings and take-offs is always a top priority for our teams.

A great example of teamwork and collaboration across departments — and a fantastic experience for our officers today.

Our officers Buba and Jay, alongside our Operations Manager Chris, recently worked together with Sussex Police to help raise awareness of Operation Cavell — an important initiative focused on protecting NHS staff from violence, abuse, and anti-social behaviour while carrying out their vital roles.

During the operation, advice and information were provided to staff and members of the public to help increase awareness of the support available, the purpose of Operation Cavell, and the importance of creating a safe and respectful environment for NHS workers.

We are proud to work in partnership with Sussex Police in supporting initiatives that help protect frontline healthcare staff and promote safety across our sites.

A big thank you to Buba, Jay, Chris, and Sussex Police for their professionalism, engagement, and continued commitment to supporting both staff and the wider community.

Today we would like to recognise and thank our officer Khalid as he moves from this site to support another site within our company portfolio.

Khalid has been a fantastic member of the team, always showing professionalism, dedication, and a strong commitment to looking after staff and maintaining a safe environment for everyone on site. The cards presented to him are a reflection of the appreciation and respect he has earned from both staff and colleagues during his time here.

We thank Khalid for all of his hard work and wish him every success at his new site. We know he will continue to do an outstanding job and be a credit to the team.

Last week at Eastbourne District General Hospital, we welcomed East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service for a familiarisation visit across the site.

These visits are an important part of emergency planning and help fire crews become familiar with the hospital layout, access routes, fire hydrant locations, evacuation procedures, high-risk areas, and key building systems they may need to use in the event of an emergency.

During the visit, our Security teams were out and about reassuring members of the public following a high number of concerned questions regarding the presence of fire service vehicles on site. We would like to reassure everyone that this was a planned familiarisation exercise and there was no incident at the hospital.

We would like to thank East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service for their continued support and partnership in helping us keep our patients, visitors and staff safe.

Following today’s announcement that the UK terror threat level has been raised to SEVERE, we want to reassure our staff, patients, visitors and partners that safety and security remain our highest priority.

A SEVERE threat level means an attack is considered “highly likely” by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) and UK security services.

Our security teams supporting East Sussex Healthcare Trust are continuing to work closely with NHS staff, emergency services and partner agencies to maintain a safe environment across all healthcare sites.

You may notice:
• Increased security patrols
• Enhanced vigilance around entrances and public areas
• Continued partnership with local police and emergency planning teams

We ask everyone to remain alert and report anything suspicious immediately to security staff or police. If there is an immediate risk or emergency, always call 999.

Healthcare settings must remain safe places for patients, families and frontline workers, and we thank everyone for their cooperation and professionalism during this heightened security period.

🚨This Morning’s Training🚨

This morning, our officers Josh and John took part in a cardiac arrest simulation drill at Eastbourne District General Hospital, supporting clinical teams and helping ensure everything ran safely and smoothly.

During the exercise, they played a vital role in managing the surrounding environment — respectfully directing members of the public away from potentially distressing scenes, keeping access routes clear, and assisting with opening doors and lifts to enable swift patient transfer to the Resus department. Their actions help create the space clinical staff need to focus entirely on patient care without obstruction or delay.

Our security team regularly responds to MET and cardiac arrest calls outside of clinical areas, particularly where members of the public may be present. Their professionalism, awareness, and coordination are key in supporting emergency responses across the site.

🚨Weekly Roundup🚨

It’s been an extremely busy and challenging week across both Conquest and Eastbourne District General Hospital sites, with Conquest experiencing the higher demand.

We want to take a moment to recognise and thank all of our staff for the incredible work carried out in A&E during a particularly difficult period. Teams have had to manage high levels of violence and aggression, and their professionalism and resilience have not gone unnoticed.

Over the past week:

* 19 MG11 statements were completed and submitted
* 4 crime reports were finalised
* A significant volume of Body Worn Camera footage was reviewed

We also extend our sincere thanks to all Security Officers for their continued support, teamwork, and dedication in maintaining safety across both sites.

As we head into a new week with high spirits and some welcome good weather, we’d like to remind everyone that hospitals—especially A&E departments—remain extremely busy. Staff are working as quickly as possible while ensuring care is delivered safely and effectively.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

We often get asked why we wear Body Worn Cameras (BWC) in hospital settings — so here’s a bit of insight.

Hospitals are places of care, but they can also be unpredictable environments. Unfortunately, violence and abuse towards staff is more common than many people realise. This doesn’t just affect security teams — our nurses, reception staff, and other frontline workers can all face challenging situations.

Body Worn Cameras are there to help keep everyone safer.

They act as a visible deterrent, often helping to de-escalate situations before they get worse. When incidents do occur, BWCs provide clear, unbiased evidence that can be used in investigations and court proceedings. They also support police by providing valuable intelligence when needed.

Most importantly, they help protect our staff and our patients — ensuring that people can come to work and receive care in a safer environment.

We don’t wear them to intimidate or invade privacy. We wear them to promote accountability, transparency, and safety for everyone.
