Alzheimer’s Awareness Month 🩷

As part of World Alzheimer’s Month, we’re helping to raise awareness and understanding of the condition.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia. It is a progressive condition that affects the brain and, over time, can impact a person’s memory, thinking, communication and ability to manage everyday life.

But Alzheimer’s is so much more than simply becoming forgetful.

Someone living with Alzheimer’s may experience:

🌟 Difficulty remembering recent events or conversations
🌟 Confusion about dates, times or places
🌟 Difficulty finding the right words or following conversations
🌟 Changes in mood, confidence or behaviour
🌟 Difficulty planning, making decisions or completing familiar tasks
🌟 Problems recognising people or places as the condition progresses

Every person’s experience is different, and a diagnosis does not take away the person behind it.

They still have feelings.
They still need connection.
They still deserve choices, dignity and respect.
And they are still the same person with a lifetime of stories behind them.

At Share the Care, we believe greater understanding helps us provide greater support.

Throughout September, we’ll share information to help make our community more dementia-aware.

🎉🩷2 YEARS OF SHARE THE CARE DAY SERVICE! 🩷🎉

Today we’re celebrating 2 wonderful years since we opened the doors to our Share the Care Day Service! 🥳

What started in 2024 as just one day a week has grown into a thriving Day Service open 5 days a week and what an amazing two years it has been!

Our Day Service has always been about so much more than simply having somewhere to go.

✨ Friendship
💜 Companionship
😂 Laughter
🎨 Activities
☕ Cups of tea and plenty of chats
🚌 Days out and new experiences
🤝 Reducing loneliness and isolation
🏡 And most importantly… creating a real home from home

We’ve made so many wonderful memories over the last two years, and seeing the friendships, confidence and happiness that have grown within our little Day Service family makes us incredibly proud.

A huge THANK YOU to our amazing staff, our clients and their families for supporting us and helping make the Day Service what it is today.

Here’s to 2 years of memories… and many, many more to come! 🩷
