At the beginning of the year, we undertook the refurbishment of an old wildlife pond. Before work began, the fish, newts, and snails were carefully removed and relocated to a temporary holding tank. Water lilies and other aquatic plants were also lifted and stored while the pond was drained.
Once drained, years of accumulated silt and debris were removed from the pond, helping to improve water quality and create a healthier environment for wildlife. The marginal plants and grass sections were then excavated and set aside ready for replanting.
The existing liner and underlay were cleaned and reused as the new underlay before a new pond liner was installed.
Once complete, the pond was refilled to its finished level and the aquatic and marginal plants were returned to their original positions. Finally, the fish, newts, and snails were safely released back into their newly restored habitat.
