Lovely Luna posing in her Dryrobe after her underwater treadmill session! 💜🐾

Luna first started coming to us at just 9 months old following her hip dysplasia diagnosis.
Early diagnosis, alongside supportive physiotherapy and hydrotherapy, can play an important role in managing hip dysplasia.
Through tailored rehabilitation, we aim to build supportive muscle around the hip joint, improve strength and mobility, encourage correct posture and gait, and help maintain comfort and function as Luna grows. 🐶💧

Every dog is different, so we tailor each rehabilitation programme to their individual needs and goals. 💙

Thor smashing his treadmill session 💪

Thor is a senior dog who visits us regularly for Hydrotherapy and Physiotherapy sessions.

As dogs get older, it’s common for them to slow down. They may find it harder to get up, get in and out of the car, or maintain the muscle mass they once had.

Here at Stage 1, we work with Thor to support him as he ages, focusing on building hindlimb strength, maintaining muscle mass and managing his osteoarthritis.

There is no slowing him down 🐶💙

Did you know that hydrotherapy is not only for injured dogs?
Kobie comes for regular fitness work in our pool to help maintain his muscles and keep fit. This weekend, he had some great wins at a confirmation show.
Massive congratulations to him and his owner, and it's great to see when it all comes together🥳🎊.

Hi I’m Beth,

I’m a recent RAMP registered Veterinary Physiotherapy graduate from Harper Adams University and have recently completed my Level 4 Advanced Practitioner qualifications in both pool and treadmill hydrotherapy.

During my studies, I spent a year living and working in America under a canine rehabilitation specialist vet. This gave me the opportunity to work with a huge variety of surgical, injury rehabilitation and maintenance cases, including some high-level sporting dogs, and really helped shape my approach to rehabilitation.

My passion for Veterinary Physiotherapy developed through my own rehabilitation experience with a previous pony, who I competed with to a high level, and ultimately led me to pursue a career where I can help support animals through their own rehabilitation journeys.

I’ve recently made the move from Nottinghamshire down to Cornwall, and I’m really excited to be starting this next chapter with Stage 1 Hydrotherapy🐾

When I’m not at work, you’ll usually find me exploring the countryside with my horse Stan and working cocker spaniel Ti-Ti, playing golf, or attempting to bake something!

I’m really looking forward to meeting lots of you and your dogs and becoming part of the Stage 1 family. ❤️

So… meet Beth. 🐾

After keeping this under wraps for the last few weeks, I can finally introduce you to the newest member of the Stage 1 Hydrotherapy team.

Beth will be joining Stage 1 from mid September.

Finding the right person to join Stage 1 has been incredibly important to me.

After more than 15 years of building the business, I know exactly what I expect when it comes to the care of my clients and their dogs — and I wasn't prepared to compromise on that.

Beth is a Veterinary Physiotherapist as well as a Hydrotherapist, and she brings exactly the combination of knowledge, experience and approach to patient care that I was looking for.

She genuinely understands dogs, rehabilitation and the importance of tailoring treatment to the individual patient.

Most importantly, I know I can trust her to provide the standard of care that I expect for every dog coming through our doors.

I'm really excited to have her joining the team and I can't wait for you all to get to know her.

So, welcome to Stage 1, Beth. ❤️🐾

I have a feeling this is going to be the start of something very exciting…

Sometimes the answer is to stop trying to do everything yourself.

Over the 15+ years I’ve been running Stage 1 Hydrotherapy, I’ve brought other people into the business to help along the way.

The business has grown around me, and I’ve been fortunate enough to build something that I’m incredibly proud of.

But the last year has made me realise that if Stage 1 is going to continue moving forward, I need to think differently about how I work.

My skin has forced me to reduce my time in the pool, but I don’t want that to mean reducing what Stage 1 can offer.

I want to be able to accommodate more dogs, more treatment options, more versatility.

I want to offer greater flexibility with appointments again.

And most importantly, I want every dog coming through the door to receive the same level of care, attention and professionalism that I’ve always insisted upon.

So rather than trying to make the business fit around my limitations, I decided it was time to find someone who could become part of the Stage 1 team.

That sounds simple.

It wasn't.

After 15 years of doing things my way, bringing another person into the business was a huge decision.

I needed to find someone I could trust.

Someone who understands dogs (and horses!)

Someone who understands the responsibility that comes with working in a hydrotherapy environment.

And someone who shares my approach to patient care.

I wasn't prepared to compromise on that.

But after a lot of thought, conversations and searching…

I found her. 🐾

And next week, I'm finally going to introduce you to her.

I think you're going to like her. ❤️

When you run your own business for as long as I have, you become very good at adapting.

You work around problems.
You find solutions.
You carry on.

And that’s exactly what I’ve done with my skin over the last year.

I’ve adjusted my working hours. I’ve changed chemicals, tried to limit my exposure to the pool when I can. I’ve worked around flare-ups and, where necessary, reduced my availability.

But there comes a point where adapting isn’t enough.

The difficult part has been that it hasn’t just affected me.

It has also meant that Stage 1 hasn’t always been able to offer the availability I would like to offer.

There have been times when I’ve had to say no to work, limit the number of sessions I can take on, or arrange my days around how much time I can physically tolerate in the pool.

And that’s not how I want to run the business.

After more than 15 years of building Stage 1, I’m not ready to slow it down.

Quite the opposite.

I want Stage 1 to continue developing, I want to be able to accommodate more dogs, and I want to maintain the same high standard of individual care that has always been at the heart of what we do.

So I’ve had to look at the bigger picture.

Maybe the answer isn't for me to keep trying to squeeze more hours out of myself.

Maybe the answer is to change the way Stage 1 works.

And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing behind the scenes.

There’s something new coming.

And I’m very excited to finally be able to share it with you soon. 🐾

After years of working in the pool, I never expected this to become a problem.

For over 15 years, I’ve spent a huge part of my working life in the pool.

It’s a job I absolutely love. I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of dogs, helping them recover from injury and surgery, manage chronic conditions, build strength and fitness, and simply feel better in themselves.

But over the years, something I never really thought about started to catch up with me.

Working for hours at a time in a warm, humid pool environment, with constant exposure to the water and chemicals, gradually began to take a toll on my skin.

What started as occasional irritation became increasingly difficult to manage.

Over the last year in particular, my skin has deteriorated to the point where I’ve had to restrict the amount of time I can spend working in the pool.

And that has been incredibly frustrating.
Because when you’ve built a business around something you love, the last thing you want to do is turn work away or reduce your availability because your own body is telling you that you can’t keep doing things in quite the same way.

For a long time, I’ve simply tried to manage it.

But I’ve had to accept that managing it isn't a long-term solution.

So, after many years of doing things one way, a change is coming to Stage 1 Hydrotherapy.

I’ve been working quietly behind the scenes to find a solution that allows me to continue doing what I love, while also making sure Stage 1 can continue to grow and provide the level of care I expect for every dog that comes through our doors.

And, finally, I think I’ve found the answer.

More to come… 🐾

Meet Ding — the pluckiest pup in town! 🐾💦
This determined Cairn Terrier comes to hydrotherapy with more style than a rockstar on tour (and just as much attitude). He’s working hard to strengthen those knees — bilateral luxating patella may sound fancy, but then again, so is he.

Ding is the definition of commitment. His owner insists he swims like a philosopher: deeply contemplative, occasionally sceptical, but always magnificent.

Keep paddling, Ding — you’re the poster pup for resilience and charm! 🌊🐶✨

🌊 Spot the Dog! 🐾

This handsome Fox Terrier is one of our amazing hydrotherapy clients here at Stage 1 Hydrotherapy. Spot visits us regularly as part of his care plan for Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), a progressive condition that affects the spinal cord in dogs.

To help him stay strong and mobile, Spot receives a combination of underwater treadmill therapy and laser treatment. These therapies work together to support his muscles, improve his circulation, and keep that tail wagging!

He’s a brave little guy with a big heart, and as you can see, he rocks his treadmill sessions like a pro! 💪🐶

Keep it up, Spot — we’re all so proud of you! 💙
