& training courses planned for April/May 2021

The pandemic has made the delivery of face-to-face, classroom-based training services very challenging. Swathe Services, in conjunction with HYPACK, are developing two instructor led training courses for delivery online. The courses will offer interactive remote access to the survey platform (manned vessel/USV) during equipment installation, calibration, and data acquisition. Allowing the remote attendee to step into the role of the online surveyor, configure the sensors and conduct the survey. This will be followed by instructor led training on data processing and an introduction to generating final products. Cornwall Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (IFCA) has invested in state-of-the-art HYPACK MAX technology for its survey works throughout its district.

HYPACK Max technology can be operated remotely and has been essential for performing surveys under the COVID-19 restrictions.

Colin Trundle, Principal Scientific Officer at Cornwall IFCA says: “The HYPACK software has been on my wish list for a while, We have used it for logging all our seabed surveys including sub-sea camera surveys and side scan sonar surveys, which are used to describe seabed texture and feature locations. It has also been operated offsite and remotely, so it’s been a great resource to use with COVID-19 restrictions.’’
