Just managed to finish before the rain arrived. For the past few years fledgling Seagulls have fallen down the chimney pots and had to be rescued from the boxed in fire place, covered in soot 😂 Quite an exposed area so the Defender seagull spikes have been installed using high tack glue and stainless steel screws.

Another day , another proofing job. Pigeons removed from under the solar panels and Defender Solar Excluder installed. Even cleared the gutters and cleaned the fascia panels 😎

Nice weather and views today, installing Defender ridge spikes on this bungalow. Had to remove the old damaged spikes and glue first so took a little longer but the customer was more than happy with the finished job 😎

Handyman’s attempt at installing bird netting 😂 Everything is wrong so it all had to go. Fixings and netting installed correctly using all the correct materials designed for the installation bird netting. Always use a professional 😎

Not the nicest of jobs to do but very satisfying end results. A hole in the roof and smashed windows had allowed the Pigeons to move in and set up home. After removing the birds and blocking the entry points with mesh we treated the entire building and bird droppings with PX-Ornikill (bird disinfectant). The disinfectant kills all the pathogens and bacteria associated with bird droppings and allows us to safely remove it. Once all the droppings had been bagged up for disposal the entire building was again spray treated with PX-Ornikill making it safe for the builders to enter to continue their work. 😉

This August Installer of the Month entry took Scot from Duchy Pest Control into a particularly awkward courtyard in St Ives.

Defender Wide Plastic Gutter Spikes were installed along the gutters and ledges high above the existing bird net, removing the areas where pigeons could continue to perch and foul into the courtyard below.

A canopy net was then fitted beneath the spikes to provide another level of protection and prevent birds from entering the lower courtyard area. This combination of spikes and netting created a thorough solution for a difficult space where several different surfaces needed to be protected.

Once the bird proofing was complete, Scot treated the walls and courtyard with Ornikill disinfectant before washing everything down and leaving the whole area clean and tidy. He even cleaned the windows while he was there! 🪟✨

A brilliant example of looking at the entire problem, choosing the right bird control method for each area and finishing the job properly.

Working in a very awkward courtyard today. Defender Spikes have been installed to the gutters and ledges high above the bird net and a canopy net was installed below the spikes, finally the walls and courtyard was treated with PX-Ornikill (avian disinfectant) and washed down, leaving the courtyard clean and tidy (we even cleaned the windows) 😎

This July Installer of the Month entry comes from Hayle in Cornwall and a familiar face, previous winner Scot from Duchy Pest Control 👏🐦

Scot has completed a lovely installation of Defender Curved Ridge® Spikes to deter gulls from perching along the ridge of this domestic property.

Gulls are naturally drawn to high vantage points where they can watch for feeding opportunities and stay safely away from predators. Defender Curved Ridge® has 304 grade stainless steel pins standing 15 cm high, designed in relation to the length of a gull’s legs so it can no longer comfortably stand on the ridge. Not only that, it comes with a 25 year 'No Rust' material warranty.

The base also features integral curved stabilisers. These keep each strip sitting centrally on the ridge and stop determined gulls from pushing the spikes over while the silicone is curing.

Scot also completed a couple of smaller jobs using Defender Thistle and Defender Wide plastic on some window ledges. They were particularly wide, so he used several rows to stop those pesky pigeons.

A beautifully neat installation, although with views like these, it is not exactly a bad place to spend the working day! 🌊☀️

A couple of small spiking jobs today in sunny St Ives. First job we installed Defender bird spikes to a couple of window ledges and a combination of standard bird spikes and low profile Thistle spikes used so the window can still be opened. Second job of the morning we installed plastic Defender spikes to the top of this bin store to stop birds roosting and fouling (and made sure the lid could still be opened and closed 😉)
