As the squeeze comes on business, then more enquiries being received about monitoring and improving performance in a business, in order to maintain or increase profitability. Attached article originally written in 2018, before all the mayhem of the last 5 years started. A key message - performance management is not about dealing with poor performers, the focus has to be on using indicators to drive improvements. This is why we are proud to be part of setting up the Food & Drink North East group, so that the region can integrate and coordinate support for the sector

Gross Value Added (GVA) is under 2% in . That's the economic contribution of the sector to the local economy - whereas 21% of the regional workforce are employed by the sector. Time to join the dots to grow a sustainable, accessible and inclusive sector that is fit for the future.

Some very interesting discussion points that cut across all manufacturing sectors. Looking ahead, how can you prepare your organisation in terms of:

1. Skills - a flexible, multi-skilled workforce.
2. Leadership - investing in succession planning and developing leadership within who can enable performance through people.
3. Adapting supply chain and operations to be lean AND agile.

Ultimately, a very interesting question at the end - if consumerism is dying down (and it needs to!!), then how will companies making stuff ensure profitability maintained from making less?
