It takes a lot of work to bring you delicious chocolate and branded gifts, and it’s time for you to meet another member of our team.

Sarah .time.saver joined the team in July, initially as a VA and Support Worker for Simon through Access To Work.

She’s become far more than that and now is like a piece of the furniture and she’s here for good. (we won’t let her go…ever! 🤣)

The business has changed so much over the past 6 months, not just in terms of culture and systems but also in making consistent profits too.

Sarah’s key areas of support for us are in Financial Control and most importantly strategy.

She helps us to craft realistic short, medium and long term and plan/execute the actionable steps to get there.

Ive been harbouring a secret...

Well actually I have quite a few of those but only one im prepared to share on this platform!

Ive been busy beavering away at something behind the scenes you see. Keeping it on the D- Low, as the kids say.

You see im always keeping my ear to the ground... listening, watching, speaking to other business owners and entrpreneurs.

Something that pops up repeatedly is just how lonely it is and hard to be your own boss. No one checking in on you, no one to challenge your thoughts or call you out when you miss that self imposed deadline.

In essence, a lack of accountability.

Yes we are all accountable to our clients but how often are we accountable to ourselves? To our own business needs? Our own self care? Slides way too easy doesnt it! We are all quite happy to sit at the bottom of the pile.

Your business growth is being stunted, held back because of this. Neglecting financials, marketing and sales plans, self care, all part of the problem.

One of my VBM clients who incidentally lives the furthest from me geographically, infact almost 4000 miles to be precise, sent me this voice note last week.

He often calls me a wizard 🧙‍♀️ thankfully not a witch 😂

Being able to work intuitively and closely with your clients means you can often stay a steps ahead.

Happy New Year!!

Its January and most of us are now back to work.

Slightly more rotund and shaking from lack from caffeine and chocolate. As if that's not enough to deal with you also have a mound of work that's less appealing than the salad you've made yourself for lunch.

Don't let 2023 be another tough slog. Get some help onboard and ease that pressure.

Business owners - it’s not necessary for you to have an assistant.

You’ve set the business up and run it successfully on your own so far, you’re capable of doing it all.

Absolutely.

But for a moment I want you to consider how you may be inadvertently hindering your businesses growth.

One of my VBM clients ran his business successfully for 5yrs prior to working with me. A really successful side line but he decided he didn’t want to do it all anymore. He wanted to free up his time to focus on the service and delivery and not so much the ‘running side’ of things.

It didn’t scratch his itch, he loves what he does and wanted to spend more time focusing on his strengths.

We’ve worked together over a year now and this year he’s projected to move from 80k turnover to over 121k and is now averaging 10k months.

Smashing through that 100k turnover mark for the first time is huge.

So how have I influenced that?

- First off we reviewed and discussed strategy and plans for 2022.

- Implemented new software and processes to streamline his workload and prioritise his time.

- Got really close to the numbers. Understanding targets, how to break them down and hit them, monthly reporting, giving sight an in-depth understanding of expenses and budget for investment to help grow the business further.

- Given him a sounding board. Being able to what’s app me whenever he needs to. He receives a supportive ear and encouragement as well as being challenged and being offered alternative view points.

PLUS any admin support as and when he needs it.

We’ve plenty more work to do but the evidence is there that the right type of assistant can add so much value.

So whilst you CAN do it all, look at the difference when you do onboard an assistant.

How do I choose a VA?

I’ve spoken with at least 3 different people recently who have all used a VA in the past and are looking to change.

I’m always fascinated when I hear this because for me when you find the right one you don’t want to give them up for love nor money!

Making that decision isn’t always easy.
So what are the things you should be looking for.

⭐️ First and foremost a connection. Find someone who you can connect with, it should feel easy and relaxed. Consider their tone, professionalism and approach.

⭐️Experience. Do they have the right experience? What’s their background. Is their skill set the right one needed to support your type of work. There’s no point needing someone on calls all day who has never made outbound call in their career but is a whizz with a spreadsheet!

⭐️ Capacity. This is always an important question to ask. Do they have the capacity to help you or are they squeezing you in? If you are looking to grow do they have room to potentially grow with you?

⭐️ Contracts. No contract run a mile! I would personally never work with someone without a contract in place. It protects both parties. You want to make sure the due diligence is there.

Two heads are better than one.

It’s true!

When I jump on calls with my clients they benefit from me bringing my knowledge and experience to the table as well as theirs.

I ask the questions they may forget, I answer questions they not be able to answer. My presence allows me to keep up to speed with progress and then lead on the next steps.

When the call ends they can move to the next thing safe in the knowledge action points and progress can remain with me.

I keep them briefed and pass back any high level decisions that needs to be made. They make them, and it’s back to me to implement and keeping the project moving forward.

I make their life easier.

It’s like a little piece of them can keep working on the project!

“No I don’t know, because I get paid more than a tiler so it would be mad for me to spend my time tiling. I wouldn’t be saving money, I’d be LOSING money.

Basically, if you’re doing your own admin and earning more than it costs to pay for my time for an hour then you’re losing money by not working with me! Scary thought huh.
