How can I find the right VA for my needs? As entrepreneurs and leaders, our time is our most valuable asset. A great Virtual Assistant can help us protect it - but finding the right one isn’t always straightforward.
Here are a few steps I recommend when searching for a VA that truly supports your goals:
🔹1. Define what you need support with - be specific. Admin tasks? Inbox & calendar management? Social media? Customer service? Clarity helps you identify the skill set you need and avoids mismatched expectations.
🔹2. Identify your working style - Do you prefer voice notes or typed instructions? Daily check-ins or weekly reports? A great VA should align with your communication preferences.
🔹3. Choose skills over labels - “VA” is a broad title. Focus on the skills and strengths relevant to your workflow, tech savvy, writing, project management, CRM knowledge, etc.
🔹4. Don’t skip the interview stage - Ask scenario-based questions. See how they think, how they problem-solve, and how they handle ambiguity. Initiative is priceless.
🔹5. Start with a trial period - A short trial project can help you assess fit before committing long-term.
🔹6. Look for proactive communication - The best VAs anticipate needs, clarify when needed, and take ownership of tasks. Communication can be more important than technical ability.
Also, consider timezone compatibility and availability. Even partial crossover can make collaboration smoother.
A strong VA is more than an assistant; they’re a strategic partner who helps you focus on the work only you can do.
