4.7 out of 5 for our team.

That score says a lot about how we operate.

Support here isn’t transactional. It’s not tickets, queues, or faceless service.

It’s real people, paying attention, making introductions, noticing when something’s needed, and stepping in at the right time.

Because the right environment isn’t just about the space, it’s about the people in it.

Let's be honest, cafés are great until you actually need to get work done.

And working from home is great, until your house starts to feel a bit too much like your office.

That's the part people don't always mention when they talk about freelancing.

It starts off brilliant. Laptop, coffee, no commute, nobody asking where you are. You can work whenever and wherever you like.

Then the little things start to bug you. You end up knowing exactly which cafés have plugs, which ones have WiFi that keeps dropping, which table you like, which ones are too loud for calls, and how long you can realistically sit there before buying another coffee.

Then there's home. Fine for a day, fine for a few days, sometimes genuinely great. But when your desk doubles as your kitchen table, your work day quietly turns into your evening, and you realise you haven't properly spoken to anyone all day, it can start to feel like a lot.

Not always, and not for everyone, but enough that most freelancers will know exactly what we mean.

You don't necessarily need an office. You just need somewhere else, sometimes.

Somewhere to sit down, get into work mode, see a few other humans, take a call without overthinking it, and then leave at the end of the day.

With pay-as-you-go membership, we're here whenever you need us.

4.6 out of 5.

That’s our average member satisfaction score across TownSq.

It’s not about one standout moment, it’s about showing up consistently, delivering what we say we will, and creating an environment people can rely on.

Because when the workspace runs properly, our members can focus on what actually matters, building their businesses.

That’s where trust is built.

Business can be rewarding, but that's not to say it can't be tough, and at times, really testing.

A recent survey found that 42% of UK sole traders and small business owners felt burnt out by the end of 2025. That should make us pause.

Running a business alone means the decisions, challenges, growth pains, even that delivery that didn't turn up, all live in your head.

Whilst we don't have a magic pill, we do have the space and some support to help share the challenges. Sometimes it's a proper workspace to think clearly. Sometimes it's admin support taking one more job off your plate. Sometimes it's a networking session with someone who's been through the same thing. And sometimes it's just a conversation over a cuppa, a chance to say "I'm struggling with this bit" and hear "yep, we've been there too."

At TownSq, our spaces and programmes support founders, freelancers and small business owners in the real world.

🏢 Places to work
🗣️ People to talk to
🤝 Opportunities to connect
💡 Practical support when the day to day starts to pile up

Business is hard enough, but you don't have to do it alone.

Struggling to switch off this summer? It might not just be the heat keeping you up.

Flexible working has given so many of us more freedom over our days but working from home all the time can make it surprisingly hard to switch off. When your office is also your kitchen table, spare room or sofa, the line between "work" and "life" gets thinner than we'd like to admit.

Flexible and remote working is now part of how we work but are we starting to see a pull back toward more structure?

We don't think the answer is going back to long commutes and rigid 9-to-5s in the office. We think it's about giving people better choices.

In fact, research in our new paper found that 42% of regular home workers report trouble sleeping, compared with 29% of people who work regularly from an office. Our own member surveys tell a similar story people value having somewhere to focus, take calls, get things done, and properly leave work behind at the end of the day, without the long commute either.

Curious what else we found? Our paper "What if everyone could walk to work?" looks at how it can:

✅ Increase life expectancy and reduce physical and mental health risks
✅ Boost job satisfaction - equivalent to a £4,000 salary increase
✅ Save the average person £800 to spend on what matters to them
✅ Deliver CO2 savings equal to 44 extra fully grown trees, per commuter

What you missed last month.

July was a busy one across TownSq. Awards, fundraising, expos, podcasts, Pilates, networking and plenty of reasons to get people together.

At Shell Store, Hereford, there was lots to celebrate. The team were named finalists in the Herefordshire Tourism Awards in the Business Events Venue category, raised an incredible £1,430 for local charity Yeleni by taking on Tough Mudder, and we also announced that our very own Danielle Dunn will be the new host of Ladies Lunch.

At The Track in Bognor Regis, John Parsons joined us for a workshop exploring Teal vs Hierarchy and different ways of thinking about modern business structures. We also welcomed Cordelia Worsley from Aldwick Pilates for a Pilates session - a slightly calmer way to spend some time at The Track.

At Perch in Bicester, the Eco Summer Business Expo was a huge success, bringing together local businesses, exhibitors and visitors for networking, guest speakers, professional headshots and even a F1 racing simulator.

July also saw the launch of the new Bicester Business Collective Podcast, sharing the stories, challenges and successes of local business owners, while the Elmsbrook AGM brought the wider community together for an evening of updates, live music and a pop-up pub.

At Town Hall in Tunbridge Wells, our resident artists wrapped up their final class of the year, while Theo kept everyone well fed with some rather lovely catering in the TownSq coffee shop.

And, as always, plenty has been happening online too through https://zurl.co/1RNuz and our network of hubs in Barnstaple, Caerphilly, Crewe and Kingston.

Whatever you’re doing this summer, if you’re looking to escape the work-from-home, we’re here.

Ever joined somewhere for one reason and stayed for a completely different one?

That's TownSq for a lot of our members. They come for the space - the desks, the meeting rooms, the flexibility. But what keeps them here is the staff who know their name, the friendly faces in the kitchen, the little chats that turn a normal Tuesday into a good one.

Great workspace gets you through the door. Community is what keeps you there.

Confidence in business rarely comes from having all the answers.

It comes from being around people who've faced similar challenges, made tough decisions, and kept going anyway.

Our Impact Report found that 28% of members feel more confident since joining TownSq - and it's something we see time and time again across our spaces.

When isolation reduces, clarity improves. And with clarity comes more decisive action.

That's where real confidence starts to build.
