Be More Frank (one of our 2 chosen local charities) are now just Ā£191 off their Ā£9,500 target šŸ’„

It’d be brilliant to see the target reached by tomorrow for Frank’s family and all the other families they support in Frank’s memory.

Details are in the post belowšŸ‘‡

1 week ā€˜til Frank’s 19th birthday the other side of the stars.

Soo we’ve 89% funded Franko’s 19th birthday fundraiser which, quite Frankly (boom boom) is amazeballs.

Can you help us get to 100%? What we really would love to do is raise adequate funds to support 19 families by Frank’s 19th birthday on 19th August.

A tall order but omigod look how close we are!! Could you donate Ā£19 or a mega Ā£190 to a family in your area facing the bleakness of a childhood cancer diagnosis? You’ll feel warm & fuzzy inside for having done something meaningful and BLOOMIN EPIC, we promise!

We're hiring!

As our HR consultancy continues to grow, we're building out our bank team with 2 new zero hours worker roles. Both offer meaningful work, flexibility and the chance to be part of a team that takes real pride in what we do.

šŸ” HR Investigations Specialist (equivalent to Ā£45,883 - Ā£54,255 FTE, depending on experience and specialisms - plus 12.07% holiday pay on hours actually worked)

Leading complex, sensitive workplace investigations (from scoping through to a robust, evidence-based report) on behalf of clients predominantly in the public and not-for-profit sectors. This is hands-on investigation work... interviewing, weighing evidence, reaching sound findings on matters that really matter to the people involved.

šŸ—£ļø HR Advisor (equivalent to Ā£33,932 - Ā£38,103 FTE, depending on experience - plus 12.07% holiday pay on hours actually worked)

Delivering high-quality, practical HR advice and support across a varied client base of small businesses and charities... from employee relations casework through to training, documentation and everything in between.

Both roles require experienced and skilled HR professionals who know they're good at what they do... not just because they believe it themselves but because others have told them so. If that sounds like you (or someone in your network), we'd love to hear from you / them.

We've popped the links to both adverts in the comments and they close on Sunday 6 September.

This week we've had Caitlin with us on work experience and she's put together her own thoughts on what work experience really offers, both to students and to the small businesses and charities who take them on.

Have a read...

And if you're an employer who's never really thought about offering work experience or you have a sneaking suspicion you're focusing more on the reasons it can't be done than the ways it can be, this might just change your mind 🧔

It’s a good job us HR folks live for the plate-spinning isn’t it?!

Consultation on the draft Acas Code of Practice covering disciplinary and grievance procedures has just gone live šŸ’„

And it’s a major revamp that’s proposed - first time it’s been subject to a change of this magnitude in 17 years.

We can’t do a banana for scale on this one, so for context… it was 18 years ago that Lorna started working in the HR world.

Anyway, our new plates (in a nutshell and just for giggles) are as follows:

- Expansion of the Code to cover workers; not just employees

- Requirement for employers to try to resolve grievance and disciplinary issues informally first (we don’t disagree with this one… but it’s a huge shift in approach for many employers and HR people)

- Tightening up of when suspension can be used in conduct cases

- Introducing meatier / new sections on mediation, manager training and reasonable adjustments

Now more than ever, if you’re a small business or charity without in-house HR expertise and you aren’t already partnered with an independent HR consultancy like Marches HR then we honestly suggest a rethink on that… sharpish 🤯

We’re already seeing an influx of employers getting ahead of January’s change to unfair dismissal rights - that’s only going to grow now with this latest announcement…

How confident are you that your organisation’s compliant with the Employment Rights Act?

We’re offering a complimentary ERA compliance survey for small businesses and charities who want a quick sense-check without the jargon.

It takes less than 10 minutes to complete and will help you understand where you might be exposed to risk.

Once the survey closes, we’ll be in touch with you personally about:

- your organisation’s level of risk/exposure
- key areas to watch out for
- practical next steps to help you get things on track

No scare tactics. No one-size-fits all guidance. Just clear, practical takeaways.

The survey is open until Friday 10th April.

If you’d like us to send it over to you, just comment below or drop us a DM and we’ll get it across to you.
