Birds had been perching above this balcony leaving behind droppings below, making the area unusable.

Defender Bird Spikes where installed on the ridge tiles and down the roof pitch slightly to help prevent any perching, making the balcony useable again.

While removing rotten decking on this property the contractor had a shock, when he discovered an active bumble bee nest.

Due to the removal of the decking this had left the nest open to the elements and in the way of on going works.

The nest was carefully transferred into a plastic tub, and left until nightfall for all the bees to safely return to the nest. The nest was then relocated into a field hedgerow well away from any human interference to allow them to nest in peace.

Smallwood Pest Solutions has a lovely entry to Augusts Installer of the Month. Feral pigeons and other birds were consistently perching on the patio heaters above a restaurant’s outdoor seating area. This was resulting in droppings landing on the tables below, creating an unpleasant and unhygienic problem for customers and staff.

Installing spikes directly onto the heaters was not an option, as the heat could have caused the spikes to melt. Instead, a bespoke aluminium frame was fabricated above the heaters, creating a safe and secure surface for installing Defender Thistle® Spikes.

At only 62 mm high and with an incredible 80 pins per strip, Defender Thistle® provides dense, low profile protection that helps prevent birds from finding a comfortable place to land.

This is a brilliant example of assessing the individual challenge and creating a clever solution rather than simply treating it as a standard installation.

Feral pigeons & other birds had consistently been perching above this restaurants outside seating area on the patio heaters, causing droppings on the tables below.

As the heaters would get too hot to install spikes directly onto the heater with a risk of the spikes melting, a aluminium frame was fabricated above the heater to allow the installation of Defender Bird Spikes thistle spikes to help prevent perching.

A recently resolved a persistent feral pigeon issue for a local customer.
Feral pigeons had been roosting and nesting throughout the area, leading to a significant buildup of fouling on the ground. To resolve this, we have proofed all window sills, pipework, guttering, and ledges using a combination of thistle spikes and stainless steel guttering spikes to deny the birds access.
To complete the job, the floor was thoroughly cleaned with a pressure washer and treated with a biocide to eliminate all pigeon related bacteria and ensure the site is safe and clear.

Squirrels had gained access to this property through a small gap under the roof tiles. After confirming the loft was clear, 13mm x 13mm heavy gauge mesh was installed to seal the entry point and prevent future access.
