It’s always lovely to wake up to a message like this!

A little thank you from one of yesterday’s customers, after we sorted out their door and locking mechanism.

We always appreciate customers taking the time to let us know they’re happy with our work. It really does mean a lot. 🥰

Rim Cylinder Lock Replacement in Folkestone

Another lock replacement completed in Folkestone!

This time, we supplied and fitted a new Asec rim cylinder, complete with a fresh set of keys.

Whether you’ve recently moved into a new home, lost a set of keys or your existing lock is starting to play up, replacing the cylinder is often all that’s needed rather than changing the whole lock.

Door Adjustment & Realignment in Folkestone

Another door adjustment carried out in Folkestone!

Over time, uPVC and composite doors can drop out of alignment, making them difficult to close, lock or lift the handle.

Sometimes customers think their locking mechanism has failed, when actually the door just needs adjusting.

On this job, we adjusted the door hinges to bring everything back into alignment and help the door operate smoothly again.

Signs your door might need adjusting:

* Having to lift the handle harder than usual
* Door catching or rubbing against the frame
* Struggling to turn the key
* Having to push or pull the door to get it locked

It’s always worth getting it checked before the extra strain causes damage to the locking mechanism.

At Hames and Sons Locksmiths, we always look to repair and adjust where possible rather than replace parts unnecessarily.

Well, that’s not supposed to happen! 😳

Had a message from a landlord early this morning after her tenant went to lock the front door, only for the inside of the lock to come out with the key!

Not exactly what you want when you’re heading off to work!

The biggest concern was whether the tenant would actually be able to get back into her home when she finished her shift.

Luckily, we managed to squeeze her in for 9am, just as she was returning home from work.

A new cylinder fitted and fresh set of keys, and the door was back to working as it should!

Just goes to show, locks can fail when you least expect them to!

If your lock is becoming difficult to turn or isn’t working quite as smoothly as it should, don’t ignore it. It’s always better to get it checked before it gives up completely.

When you’re trying to get on with a door repair, but you’ve got a little supervisor watching your every move! 😂

Not sure whether he was checking my workmanship or just curious to see what I was up to! 🐾

Such a friendly little chap, happily standing there watching me work.

One of the perks of being a locksmith is meeting some lovely four-legged customers along the way!

Another British Standard lock fitted in Canterbury!

This one was a fresh installation of a Union 5-lever British Standard deadlock, rather than simply replacing an existing lock.

A little more work involved, as I had to prepare the wooden door to accommodate the new lock and make sure everything fitted and operated correctly.

I also cut additional keys on-site, so the customer had everything they needed before I left. 🔑

If you’re looking to upgrade your locks or have an additional deadlock fitted, feel free to get in touch.

Another lock upgrade in Whitstable!

This customer needed their existing lock upgraded, so I supplied and fitted a new 5-lever British Standard deadlock.

Not all locks offer the same level of security, and having the right locks fitted can also be important for your home insurance.

A simple upgrade that makes a big difference to your home security.

If you’re unsure whether your locks meet British Standard, feel free to get in touch.
