One of the things I really value about The One Minute Manager (highly recommended read) is the simple reminder that effective leadership is about people.
Not everyone needs the same kind of support, and not everyone needs it at the same time. Sometimes people need clear direction. Sometimes they need coaching. Sometimes they need encouragement. And sometimes they just need someone to trust them and step back. That’s where situational leadership makes such a difference 🙌🏻
That is what makes the model so effective. When leaders adapt their style to the person and the situation, they create confidence, better communication, and stronger results. It’s a person-centred way of leading — and in my experience, it’s also a much more effective way of helping individuals and teams perform well.
The best leaders I’ve worked with have always had this ability to read the room. They knew when to guide, when to support, and when to let people take ownership. That balance builds trust, and trust is what helps teams grow and deliver.
It’s a great reminder that leadership isn’t about using the same approach with everyone. It’s about meeting people where they are and helping them move forward.
