Some 160 incidents of broken bones, whiplash, snapped ligaments and cuts and bruises have been reported to Lancashire County and Lancaster City Councils since 2011, with the highest single claim resulting in a £17,431 payout. Car cloning is a serious offence which involves the theft of a vehicle’s identity including the registration number and vehicle identification number (VIN). Group sentenced for staging crash following IFED investigation A five-strong ‘crash for cash’ gang has been sentenced today at the Old Bailey for trying to defraud insurer RSA of more than £30,000 by staging an accident. The group was sentenced to a total of 37 months’ imprisonment (suspended for two years), ordered to pay £10,800 in compensation and costs and ordered to carry out over 700 hours of unpaid work (see below for individual sentences). Four tried to claim against insurer Octagon after causing crash A driver and three passengers have been ordered to pay a van driver £40,000 in damages after deliberately crashing into him to make an insurance claim. Judge Gregory ordered driver Afzaal Bin Alam, his brother Asaad and the two other passengers, Naqib Mohamammed and Elias Ali – all from Coventry – to pay £10,000 each to van driver Terrence Blackwell at a trial at Coventry Crown Court on 1 and 2 March this year.
