A man has been arrested after allegedly walking into a mosque carrying weapons including an axe and a knife.

A statement from the mosque said volunteers had challenged one of the men, after they walked in during Taraweeh prayers, and called the police.

The team have been in contact overnight with the community and the Mosque in response to this distressing incident and planned attack on Muslims during this holy month of Ramadan.

Manchester Central Mosque said the "swift actions of its volunteers" had "contained the situation".

A mosque in Edinburgh has been daubed with ‘hate graffiti’, the latest in a series of incidents at Muslim religious centres across Scotland.

Following this horrific act of anti-muslim hatred at the central mosque in Edinburgh, Mosque Security have been engaged and working with the Muslim community and partners across Scotland and UK.

The mosque, which can hold as many as 1,250 worshippers, is located near Edinburgh University in the Potterrow area of Scotland’s capital.
