It’s officially “too hot to function” season ☀️🥵

British businesses everywhere are currently operating under extreme conditions:

🔥 Computers overheating
🔥 Vans turning into mobile ovens
🔥 Office fans fighting for their lives
🔥 Iced coffees surviving approximately 11 seconds

Meanwhile business owners are still trying to act professional while slowly melting into their office chairs 😅

This weather does raise an important question though…

At what temperature does HMRC allow you to submit your VAT return from a paddling pool? 👀

As accountants, we can confirm:
📋 Deadlines still exist
💻 Payroll still needs running
📞 Emails still arrive
☀️ Motivation has completely evaporated

So if you receive a slightly slower email response this week, please understand…

We are doing our best.

But we may also currently resemble warm cheese.

Stay cool everyone 😎

Small business life isn’t always about huge milestones.

Sometimes the wins are much quieter than that.

☕ A peaceful coffee before the emails start
📋 Getting through the to-do list
💷 An invoice paid on time
📞 A happy client
😅 A week without absolute chaos

When you run a business, you quickly learn to appreciate the little victories.

Because behind every “overnight success” is usually:
💻 late nights
📞 stress
📋 admin
☕ caffeine
and approximately 47 minor disasters along the way.

So this week, we’re celebrating the quiet wins.

The things that might seem small to other people — but mean a lot when you’re building something yourself.

And if this week has been calm, productive and drama-free…

Please enjoy it.

Because next week might contain an email from HMRC and a broken van 👀

Running a business is hard enough when everything goes smoothly.

But sometimes life decides to throw in:
🤒 Family illness
🚗 Vehicle breakdowns
🏠 Emergencies at home
📞 The phone call you really didn’t need
😅 Or one of those weeks where absolutely everything seems to happen at once

One thing we’ve noticed over the years is that small business owners rarely get the luxury of simply “switching off”.

Even when life gets chaotic, the business is still there:
📋 Deadlines
💻 Emails
🧾 Payroll
💷 Bills
📞 Customers

And that pressure can feel overwhelming.

That’s why having good support around you matters.

We can’t magically fix broken vans or stop children bringing home every illness known to mankind from school… but we *can* help take some of the business pressure away while you deal with real life.

Sometimes people don’t need perfection.

They just need someone helping them keep things together until the storm passes.

"People pay late." 🤷‍♂️

We heard this recently after helping a client draft a strongly-worded overdue invoice letter.

And yes… sometimes people do pay late.

But there’s a difference between:
⏰ Someone being a few days behind
and
🚫 Someone ignoring calls, emails and reminders while still admitting they owe the money.

Small businesses are expected to pay:
✔ suppliers
✔ wages
✔ VAT
✔ tax
✔ rent
✔ software
✔ absolutely everything else on time

So why should they feel guilty for chasing money they are rightfully owed?

One thing we’ll always do is support our clients in protecting their business.

Because unpaid invoices don’t just affect “profits” — they affect cashflow, stress levels and people’s livelihoods.

And importantly, when somebody admits they owe the money but still refuses to pay, they can also become responsible for additional costs incurred in recovering that debt.

Sometimes all it takes is a firm, professional letter.

(And occasionally the sudden realisation that ignoring invoices is not actually a business strategy 👀)

School half term has arrived 🎉

For children:
😃 Time off
😃 Lie-ins
😃 Fun days out

For small business owners:

📞 Emails
💻 Work calls
📋 "I'll just quickly do this..."
😅 Working while pretending you're definitely not working

Running a business can be brilliant… but switching off isn't always easy.

Many business owners know the feeling of trying to balance work, family time and a to-do list that somehow keeps growing by itself.

If you're managing to take a bit of time out this week — good. If you're still answering emails from your phone while stood at soft play or waiting outside football practice… we see you 👀

One of the biggest things we try to do for our clients is take some of that pressure away.

Because if your bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, accounts and tax are organised and under control, that's one less thing following you around during half term.

Work matters.

Family matters too.

Finding the balance is the tricky bit — helping create it is where we come in.
