π FLEETGUARD COMPLIANCE UPDATE APRIL 2026
What's changing and what it means for your operation
1. New DVSA Guide to Driving Goods Vehicles March 2026
DVSA has just released an updated edition of the Official Guide to Driving Goods Vehicles. Key changes include updated Driver CPC guidance with 10 real-world case studies, and refreshed first aid training requirements including defibrillator use.
What this means for you: If your drivers are due CPC training, make sure your training provider is using the updated 2026 material. We'll be checking this as part of ongoing compliance reviews.
2. Pre-1997 Licence Holders β Action Required
From March 2026, drivers who held licences before 1997 can no longer rely on automatic Category C1 entitlements. A new "Fitness to Retain" clause now requires a DVLA medical every three years to keep those entitlements.
What this means for you: Check your driver files now. If any of your drivers fall into this category and haven't had a medical, they may be driving on an invalid entitlement.
3. Vans Operating Internationally β July 2026
From July 2026, new tachograph rules will apply to light goods vehicles between 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes operating internationally.
What this means for you: If any of your vehicles cross into Europe, this will apply. Speak to us before July.
4. The Bigger Picture β DVSA Enforcement Direction
DVSA's 2025-26 Business Plan confirms they are continuing to build remote enforcement capability and data-driven compliance monitoring. The direction of travel is clear, more surveillance, faster enforcement, less margin for error.
Operators who are compliant have nothing to fear. Operators who aren't are running out of time.
This update is brought to you by Fleetguard Compliance, your compliance team, working quietly in the background so you can focus on running your business.
