The Raiders headed over to Moss Bank this morning for a round robin against the Purples and Greens, a first outing for our new away kit kindly sponsored by STAX Converting Ltd.
It truly was a tale of two games. In the first, we started off a little slow but grew into it as the match went on, showing great determination and teamwork. In the second, the Raiders came out flying playing some fantastic football just like recent weeks, sticking to our game plan and refusing to get drawn into unnecessary challenges. The reward was some brilliant goals and a well earned sense of pride.
Theo had a relatively quiet morning in goal but stayed switched on throughout. When called upon, he handled everything calmly especially when facing a one on one, a situation heβs been working hard on in training. His booming kicks downfield also set us up nicely on the counter.
Harley played across defence and midfield, battling hard to win back possession and showing real flair when driving at Moss Bankβs back line.
Thomas, despite being under the weather all week, showed fantastic commitment to his team. He covered the pitch tirelessly, made some excellent tackles, and delivered a few perfectly weighted passes through to our strikers. Calm and composed under pressure, he even turned defence into attack by taking on chasing players and carrying the ball forward with confidence.
Roman was solid at the back, breaking up attacks and helping to push us forward. His efforts were rewarded with a well taken goal smashing the ball home from the edge of the box against the Purples.
Joseph was full of energy in midfield, putting in some tough tackles before taking an unfortunate knock from a Moss Bank clearance. Showing great bravery, he returned to the pitch and made an instant impact spotting the Greens keeper off his line and scoring a stunning long range goal.
Harry was relentless in midfield, winning countless balls and working tirelessly from start to finish. His hard work paid off with a fantastic hattrick across both games. His first came at the right time for the Raiders from quick reactions to a loose ball in the box against the Purples. His second was an impressive strike from a tight angle against the Greens and his third capped off his morning perfectly battling through defenders before calmly slotting home with his left foot.
Kian led the line superbly, causing both Moss Bank teams all sorts of problems. Despite being brought down several times, he kept his composure and focus, continuing to drive at defenders. His persistence paid off when a loose ball in the box fell his way and he finished clinically into the back of the net.
Charlie came on up front and worked tirelessly to close defenders down, later showing great versatility by filling in at the back when needed.
Lewis slotted into defence and made an immediate impact. Taking Tuesdayβs training into the game, he put in strong tackles and ensured nothing got past him. His clearances helped turn defence into attack and he was unlucky not to score after seeing his penalty well saved by the Moss Bank keeper.
It was another great morning from the Raiders showing not only their growing quality as footballers but also their sportsmanship and character as a team.
