In 1936, the IAM was known as the Office Management Association (OMA), formed through the amalgamation of the Office Machinery Users’ Association and the British Works Management Association.

The OMA’s mission was clear: to champion the administrative profession by clarifying the vital role of office managers and gaining greater recognition for their work.
