Apparently there’s a day for everything and this Sunday, 19th September is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. It's far too ridiculous for me to ignore!

Although, looking at this picture, there may be more in common between running a business and captaining a slightly unruly pirate ship than I first thought.

As founder of The Creative Desk, a fair amount of my job involves keeping an eye on where we’re going, changing course when something isn’t working, making sure the crew knows what’s happening and occasionally wondering who moved the map.

I’ve also learnt that being at the helm doesn’t mean doing every job on the ship yourself.

That one took me a while.

Good support means having people around you who know their role, can spot trouble before it becomes a full-scale mutiny and help keep things moving when your attention is needed elsewhere.

Thankfully, The Creative Desk has considerably less plank-walking.

Usually.
