Day 5: What It Became

From day one, the approach was simple:
Move fast.

Take ownership.
Do the job properly.

Because when it’s your name on it, you care differently.

Two years on:
📈 £1.1m+ turnover
📈 Group now pushing ~£2m
👥 Team in double figures
🔧 Security, facilities & small works

Winning work we shouldn’t be — and delivering.

Because when service drops, clients notice.

👉🏻We don’t go through the motions.
👉🏻We don’t accept poor service as normal.
👉🏻We’re a problem for those who do.

Still early. Still building. Still not here to make up the numbers.

Day one wasn’t glamorous.

A laptop.
A phone.
A spare room.
No clients.

The first job came quickly.

A warehouse in County Durham — raided by police, tenant gone, risk high.

We won it on one thing:

We’ll deal with it. Now.
No layers. No delays.

That set the tone.

Back in the UK, nothing had changed.

More time spent reporting than solving problems — while customers went neglected.

So I asked the line manager some simple questions:

- What’s expected?
- What’s changing?
- And for my role — what was going on behind my back, and what about the red lines I’d already set?

His response?

“Piss off”

And when I stood up to it? Soft. Fast.

That told me everything I needed to know about the culture.

I’ve got a son.

I’d never want him to accept that from someone trading on seniority, not capability.

Keep his head down for the sake of money? No.

I'd tell him to set boundaries and back himself. Every time.

So I did.

Sometimes clarity doesn’t come in the boardroom.
It comes when you finally pause.

For me, it was a trip to Boston.
Watching the Celtics in the NBA playoffs.

A 40th birthday trip that should’ve been a break.
Instead, it forced a conversation I’d been avoiding.

At some point, frustration stops being something you tolerate…
…and starts looking like an opportunity you need to act on.

This was that moment.

Two years ago, KellTech.UK Security & Facilities didn’t exist.

Now we’re at £1m+ turnover (2x YoY), with a growing team and expanded services across security, facilities & small works.

We’re winning work we probably shouldn’t be at this stage — and delivering.

Because when service slips and standards drop, clients notice.

👉We don’t hide behind layers
👉We don’t go through the motions
👉We don’t accept poor service as “normal”

We’re a problem for those who do. And we’re fine with that. We do the job properly.

Now part of a wider group doing ~£2m.
