OctoInkjet Providing unique solutions to "Service Required" and cost effective printing

EDIT: Server Restored..

Update: The server was offline for just over an hour and at this point we're not entirely sure what caused the problem beyond a sudden spike in load that was resolved by a reboot. All sites are now back online again and service has resumed.

Original post:
Just to note we're aware that all OctoInkjet sites including our octoink.co.uk, Printerpotty.com and similar are all offline as it appears we've suffered a hard drive failure or similar.

We're talking to our server host provider now to get things back up and running again as soon as possible.

This post is mostly related to our Printer Potty content but we'd still welcome feedback on our non-waste-ink centric content like refilling tips, etc... So feel free to comment on any of our videos if you think we could do better...
.... (Original Printer Potty Post)....

After a flurry of new video guides recently we've been taking a step back and looking at how well our videos are actually put together, what information is missing and immersing ourselves in how we could do a better job without the videos developing a secondary market as sleep aids for insomniacs 😉

So with that in mind we'd really like to get some feedback on what works, what doesn't... what information we tend to overstate and what we glossed over. That along with other less technical things like what sort of videos you like... does music work, or not... Is it helpful to have talking head info in there or less so?..... and for our foreign language speakers, would it be worth us investing in proper translations as either subtitles or voiceover?
All your feedback will be very welcome and if you can provide examples that would be great too...

Once we have a clearer idea of what works, what doesn't and we've had a chance to update our video shooting and editing skills, we'll be working towards launching a Printer Potty specific channel with improved older content and new, better videos too.

And just in case you don't know where all the Printer Potty videos are, you can find them on YouTube here: https://youtube.com/octoinkjet
Thanks in advance and all the best..

Just a quick note to say our web server is being physically moved to a new data centre overnight (March 21st 22:00 to 05:00 22nd) so the server is offline until they've plugged it all back in again.

Apologies for the lack of pre-warning but we'll be back up and running again soon.

For the Canon printer owners out there, this long overdue guide to manually cleaning a stubborn clog on a Canon printhead may well be useful:

Feedback being sought for anyone who might have a spare bit of time to just watch a couple of videos and tell us which format (or bits of each) they prefer:

If anyone feels inclined we have two versions of a waste pad replacement instruction video:
1. The longer, talky format with extra details, etc..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMmfuhv7MXM

2. A much shorter, no speaking, music track version that just demonstrates the process instead of nattering about it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYFLNg2kkK4

We'd really like to know what sort of format works best for different people.. Oh and please note we're preparing the second format to include sub-titles (once we learn how!) so we can provide multi-language support as/when needed.

So, for anyone who can spare the time and your thoughts, we'd really appreciate it so we can figure out what works best. Thanks in advance.

[Delivery services - Royal Mail]

For anyone who is wondering whether to opt for use of any Royal Mail services over the next few months. We'd probably recommend against it where possible.

To quality this, we've been watching delivery speeds over the last few weeks of industrial action we've noted that RM48 is taking upwards of 5 extra days for delivery and we're seeing more losses than normal.

Other options are DHL Parcel and Fedex.

International orders are all handled through Spring GDS and not affected.

[Website Bug - Resolved]
If anyone has been experiencing issues accessing or ordering on the OctoInkjet website, we discovered that some of the security rules did not migrate across when we moved everything to our new server.

This has now resolved (as of 11:00am today) but we can see that some customers, particularly those using MS Edge browsers were getting blocked.

Doubtless this caused some frustration and we just wanted to apologise for that.

Having recently made this mistake myself I've created a "how to" guide for clearing out and refilling a PFI-300, PGI-72 or PGI-9 cartridge using our refill tools (particularly the flush clips).

Figured we might as well turn the experience into a teachable moment and an opportunity for you all to see how experience doesn't always equate to wisdom.

For any Canon Pro-300 owners who have been waiting patiently for the video instructions and other resources, I just wanted to note that I'm steadily trawling through 5+ hours of footage. A LOT of hiccups, mistakes, straight up facePalm activity and quite a few learning opportunities are in there and each is being broken into their own video nuggets.

The only problem is that as part of that learning experience the refill process would benefit considerably from being re-shot with each hard won lesson applied along the way. So, that part will be delayed for a few days...

That said, the good news is that I will soon have all that other potentially useful content ready for viewing, including:

- How to survive putting the wrong ink in a cartridge (draining, priming and refilling)

- How to chip swap (ver.2.0) with a simpler way to glue them without sticking your hands together

- How to use two sets of PFI-300 cartridges to full set swap and a log book to work out when to switch cartridges. (ie: how to use refill ink without needing a chip resetter)

- How to re-prime and refill cleaned cartridges, particularly the Matt Black type which have a quirk.

- Using PGI-9 cartridges with PFI-300 chips as surrogates (with their clear windows) for the Pro-300.
.. and more besides...

But for now you can catch the somewhat prophetic snippet for when filming started:

I was 8 minutes into filming before I even noticed!
