Celebrating my 4th year on Facebook. Thank you for your continuing support. I could never have made it without you. 🙏🤗🎉

So I've not posted in a long time. I have been so busy with work and I also had the absolute privilege and honour to be caring for my own mother, until I sadly lost her on the 16th September.

My logo is my Mothers hand in mine. ❤️

My ethics and values are what my Mother taught me.💝

My reason for becoming self employed was so I could give my Mother the love, care and attention she deserved. 🩷

I will continue in memory of my Mothers love and teachings for as long as I can. 🙏

I want to thank my amazing clients for their patience and understanding during the last 10 days of my Mothers life. They allowed me to step back, without question or judgement, so I could be fully present with the lady who gave me life 💞

"When you become frustrated with older people because of what they cannot do, think of how frustrated they must feel because they can no longer do it."

It's easy to feel a surge of frustration when an older loved one struggles with tasks that once seemed simple for them.
Watching them grapple with technology, forgetful moments, or physical limitations can test our patience. However, in these moments, it's essential to remember that our frustration is but a shadow of what they must be experiencing internally.

In the grand tapestry of life, the roles we play often shift. Today, we may be the ones offering support; tomorrow, we might find ourselves in need of it.
By approaching our older loved ones with empathy, we honor their journey and enrich our own, creating a legacy of compassion that transcends generations. ❤☀

Today has been a fabulous day, sun shining lovely clients to visit.

I have to tell you about one of my special ladies, she has fairly advanced dementia and is only happy when there is just her and her husband around.

She makes no secret that she doesn't like me.

She spends the first hour of my visit telling me she is amazed I am there again.

The second hour I get a cup of coffee and her hinting at me to hurry up or I will be late going home.

The third hour asking me to get my things together and go, I have to use every delaying tactic in my arsenal to complete my visits.

Some days are really bloody tough and challenge me to the point of almost giving up.

You see Dementia doesn't just affect the people living with it, but the whole network surrounding that person. Including me. The carer.

To be insulted, sworn at. Being questioned on my reasons for being there, constantly is soul destroying at times. It does get you down.

I'm only human.

But after 6 long hard and sometimes dreaded months of visiting, today the sun shone, and I got the breakthrough. TODAY SHE ASKED ME TO COME BACK.

Unbelievably happy!

Thank god for music and singing 😁

The meta platform have warned me they are closing my page down, apparently I violated their terms of privacy and copyright 🙄.

I am unsure exactly how I have done this and they are not forthcoming with answers.

I have appealed to them for help with this. However right now I do not have the energy to argue about it. If my page closes, I will open a new one.

In the meantime my service will continue as normal.

May I take this opportunity to thank all past and present customers, Vicky x

Merry Christmas to past and present friends.

Copied from Lapis Care, I had to share as it is so relevant for those people living daily with Dementia.

Does the thought of navigating the changing needs of a loved one with dementia leave you feeling lost? 😕
Embarking on the journey of caring for a loved one with dementia can feel like navigating an uncharted territory, filled with emotional highs and lows. The labyrinth of dementia, with its impact on memory, cognition, and behaviour, necessitates a unique blend of care and support. Yet, armed with the right tools and strategies, you can provide exceptional care while preserving your own well-being. Let's delve into this exploration of essential strategies for dementia care. 🧠
Embrace the Power of Knowledge:
The first step in this journey is understanding dementia. Dive into the different types of dementia, their symptoms, and progression. This knowledge becomes your compass, guiding you to anticipate and adapt to your loved one's evolving needs. 🧭
Cultivate a Daily Rhythm:
A consistent daily rhythm offers a comforting structure, reducing confusion and anxiety for your loved one. Establish regular times for meals, activities, and personal care. Adhere to this rhythm as closely as possible, creating a sense of stability in the shifting sands of dementia. ⏰
Master the Art of Communication:
Communicating with a person with dementia can be akin to learning a new language. Use simple, clear sentences and speak at a gentle pace. Maintain eye contact and allow your loved one time to process information. Patience, reassurance, and non-verbal cues, like gestures and facial expressions, can be powerful tools in your communication toolkit. 💬
Create a Safe Haven:
Adapt the living environment to minimise risks and enhance safety. Remove potential tripping hazards, install safety bars in bathrooms, secure rugs, and lock potentially hazardous areas. Consider using alarms or monitoring systems to prevent wandering, ensuring your loved one's sanctuary remains secure. 🏠
Foster a Sense of Independence:
Encourage your loved one to maintain their independence as much as possible. Offer cues and support to assist with tasks, but allow them the dignity of accomplishing what they can on their own. This nurtures a sense of empowerment and self-worth. 💪
Engage in Joyful Activities:
Activities that your loved one enjoys can illuminate their world, enhancing their quality of life. Tailor these activities to their abilities and interests, whether it's hobbies, puzzles, music, gentle exercises, or sensory stimulation. These activities can stimulate cognitive function and emotional well-being. 🎨🎵
Reach Out for Support:
The journey of dementia care can be physically and emotionally taxing. Don't hesitate to seek support from family, friends, and caregiver groups. Connecting with others who are navigating similar challenges can offer a lifeline, providing a platform to share experiences and learn coping strategies. Consider respite care options to recharge and rejuvenate. 🤝
Prioritise Your Well-being:
Caring for yourself is an essential part of caring for your loved one. Make time for self-care activities like exercise, nutritious meals, sufficient sleep, and relaxation techniques. Accept help from others and delegate tasks when possible. Remember, your well-being is a beacon that guides your caregiving journey. ❤️
Leverage Memory Aids:
Memory aids can be invaluable tools in daily life. Use calendars, clocks, and whiteboards to remind your loved one of important events and tasks. Label drawers and cabinets to help them locate items. Simplify their belongings and organize them logically. 📅
Stay Agile to Changing Needs:
As dementia evolves, so will your loved one's needs. Stay flexible and ready to adapt your caregiving approach. Continually assess their abilities, reassess care plans, and consult healthcare professionals for guidance and support. 🌱
Caring for a loved one with dementia is a journey of patience, understanding, and adaptability. By embracing knowledge, cultivating a daily rhythm, mastering communication, creating a safe environment, and reaching out for support, you can provide exceptional care while preserving your own well-being. Remember, you are not alone on this journey. Reach out for support, prioritise your own care, and cherish the moments of connection and love with your loved one with dementia. 💕
