Jan Liebermann's recital at Our Lady of Victories Church in London was a tour de force. His programme included a brilliantly coloured Wagner's Meistersingers Overture. Works by Bach, Duruflé and Dupré were delivered with customary precision and musical intelligence.

Afterwards Jan gave his view on the instrument: "The organ proved wonderfully suited to the Dupré and Duruflé — both musically and technically — and it was a real pleasure to play.

"The dynamic range from piano to forte is beautiful, and the flutes and celestes are particularly lovely. It’s a remarkably versatile instrument, especially (though not exclusively) for the French repertoire.

"For my taste, it is perhaps a little too powerful overall, and the 32’ flue can be somewhat boomy; perhaps this might be refined in the future. But aside from that, it’s an exceptionally exciting instrument to perform on!"

Oliver Latry's inaugural recital on the Skrabl organ in Our Lady Of Victories, Kensington, in 2022 received great acclaim. A highlight, in case you missed it, was his improvisation. He smiled broadly on being handed the theme. No surprise, it was Sur le pont d’Avignon. And then a burst of enjoyment as he embarks on a harmonically fluid, wonderfully inventive extemporisation, with a scherzo never far away. It begins at 44.30.

Looking back 10 years, Skrabl built an organ for – interesting thought – an order of Trappist monks in New York. The Abbey of the Genesee is home to 24 contemplative monks and the eight-stop instrument was designed, in collaboration with the Abbot, to accompany the liturgy. The opening recital was given by Ben Saunders, director of music in the Diocese of Leeds.

A buyer is sought for this mechanical-action organ by E J Johnson of Cambridge. Built in 1972 for St Alban's Church, Wyndynook, Gateshead, it has served recently as a temporary instrument for a church in Kensington, London.
