The Skrabl organ in St Mary's, Beaminster, has been put to good use in the past few days during the Beaminster Festival. The organist Jonathan Scott was joined in a recital by pianist brother Tom for a performance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

Afterwards they wrote: 'We had an amazing time performing at the Beaminster Festival, thank you to everyone who came to the concert! Great lighting for Rhapsody in Blue too!'

A recital by Richard Pinel, a Professor of Organ at the Royal Academy of Music and former Director of Music at Jesus College, Cambridge, included music by Buxtehude, Byrd and Leighton.

The programme by Katherine Dienes-Williams, Organist and Choir Director at Guildford Cathedral, featured music by the 19th century female French composer, Blanche Rozan and the German contemporary composer, Andreas Willscher.

It was a privilege to install a new two-manual Skrabl organ in the magnificent chapel of Kimbolton School in Cambridgeshire. It is a generous gift from members of the Old Kimboltonians' Lodge.

The model in question uses a small number of digital stops to enhance the sound by combining the quality of a traditional pipe organ with the versatility and cost-benefits of a digital instrument.

It is good to report that music occupies a central role in the life of all Kimboltonians. There are 26 dedicated musicians on the staff, coaching in almost every instrument, including the organ.

In addition, almost half of the students choose to learn an instrument or have singing lessons. We hope the organ will fulfil its role in the chapel and in the training of the young students at this fine independent school.
