Mel's Little Explorers Childminding Mel's Little Explorers Childminding offers Ofsted registerd childcare in a home environment. Hello, my name is Melisa and I am a Ofsted registered childminder.

I live on a quiet cul-de-sac with my husband Matthew, 6 year old son James, 8 month old daughter Isla and our Cocker Spaniel Coco. I have been working in childcare since 2011, in a private day nursery, the last 3 of these as the Deputy Manager. I then started childminding in 2017. I use my qualifications and experience to provide quality childcare to support children to flourish as young learners.

I have a First class honors degree in Early Years as well as childcare qualification and first aid. I have a dedicated playroom with access immediately into a fully enclosed garden, offering a free flow play opportunity from indoors to outdoors. I run my setting as a home from home for the children, and provide a welcoming safe environment with a range of fun and stimulating resources and activities to engage children of all ages. I have a full clean driving licence providing the opportunity to explore the local area on many outings, including trips to the local park, play gyms, farms, library and much more. And just like that its back to school!!

We hope that all our school leavers have the best first day, we miss you already but know that you are so ready for the next adventure. Also good luck to James who I waved off to his first day at high school this morning, ( I'm not crying honest 😢) And all the the other children going back to school today, have a great day


And a big welcome to our new children and their families, we can't wait to get to know you all and start the fun adventures we will have.

Over the next week will be getting to know everyone and building bonds and friendships through a range of activities.

Then we have some exciting themed activities planned this month, along with individual next steps that run along side our themes.

Here is a loose plan of what fun we have planned over the next few weeks (thank you chat gpt for the visual 🤣)

Graduation Party

What an absolutely amazing day we had yesterday celebrating two super stars as they get ready to set out on their journey to 'Big' school.

It has been my pleasure to care for these 2 over the years and see their individual personalities shine and watch as their characters develop into the funny, caring and determined younger people they are. Your sense of humours and the fun you both bring each day will be very much missed.

We wish you both the best in your next adventure at school, we know that you will be amazing. You are both so ready for this next step!

You will be very much missed, but I look forward to seeing how you both continue to develop and can't wait for your baby siblings to hopefully come and join the chaos of Mel's Little Explorers 🥰🥰🥰 and have the same friendship you have both enjoyed.

Now someone please pass me the tissues 😭😭😭😭 xx

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟

I'm so excited to be introducing weekly themes into my childminding setting! 🥰

Each week, our activities, crafts, sensory play, small world play, outdoor learning and invitations to play will be based around a different theme. This helps provide exciting, meaningful learning experiences while supporting each child's individual interests and development.

Alongside our weekly themes, I'll continue to focus on every child's next steps, planning activities that encourage them to build new skills and confidence through play.

Our very first theme is... 🐛 The Very Hungry Caterpillar! 🍎🍐🍓🦋

We're especially excited because we have our very own real caterpillars to care for! The children will be observing them each day as they eat, grow, form their chrysalises and, eventually, transform into beautiful butterflies. It's such a wonderful opportunity to learn about life cycles, nature, caring for living things and the world around us.

We can't wait to share our activities and our caterpillars' amazing journey with you over the coming weeks. Keep an eye on our page for lots of photos and updates! 🐛🦋✨

Today we had a very special visit from Jessica, an Oral Health Worker from Home-Start Kirklees, who came to talk to the children all about looking after their teeth 🦷✨

The children had lots of fun taking part in:
🪥 Learning how to brush their teeth properly
🍎 A good and bad foods interactive game
🎶 Singing songs about brushing our teeth
👩‍⚕️ Dentist role play and dressing up
🦷 Exploring the giant model teeth and toothbrush

The children were fully engaged throughout the session and loved receiving stickers and goodie bags to take home 😊

Jessica also spoke with me about the levels of tooth decay across Kirklees and the government programme that is supporting families and settings in improving children’s oral health across the area.

A huge thank you to Jessica and Home-Start Kirklees for such an informative, fun and engaging session today! 💙

The children loved feeding the bunny some yummy carrots and hiding the mini bunnies in their carrot house.

Lot of counting, mathematics language, turn taking, imaginative play and lots of fun 😁
