What makes someone a trusted HR expert locally… rather than just another name people have seen around? 🤔

It’s not about being the loudest voice in the room.
And it’s definitely not about constantly promoting what you do.

In our latest article, we explore how HR consultants can position themselves as a trusted local HR expert in a way that feels natural, credible and sustainable over time.

We talk about things like:
✔️ why trust is built through small, consistent signals
✔️ how to move from generalist to “go-to”
✔️ the difference between sharing information and real insight
✔️ how your experience comes through in how you communicate.

If you’ve already started building your local presence, this is the next step that really makes the difference.

⚠️ Waiting too long to deal with a problem

It’s incredibly common.

Managers notice an issue but hope it resolves itself.

Sometimes it does.

But more often the problem grows quietly until it becomes much harder to address.

One useful rule:
👉 If you’ve noticed something more than once, it’s worth a conversation.

Handled calmly and early, these discussions are usually far easier than people expect.

Building confidence in these conversations is one of the key aims of the flexion programme.

“My experience joining face2faceHR has been incredibly positive…”

Caroline joined us in January this year, and from the very start her focus was on getting up and running with confidence 💚

What really stands out in her feedback is the importance of those early days. The onboarding, the structure, the training and having everything clearly laid out so you know what to focus on and when 📍

But just as importantly, she talks about the feel of the business. Warm, supportive and genuinely people first. That combination of structure and support is what helps turn a big career move into a strong, steady start 🤝

Feeling supported every step of the way isn’t just a nice to have, it’s what makes the difference in those early months.

If you’re thinking about making the move into HR consultancy, Caroline’s experience gives a really good sense of what that start can look like 💭

⚠️ Another management trap

Assuming silence means everything is fine.

If a team member stops contributing in meetings or seems less engaged, many managers assume they’re simply busy.

But sometimes it’s a sign something else is going on.

A simple check-in can help:
👉 “How are things going at the moment? Anything you’d like to talk through?”

Small conversations like this can uncover issues early and prevent bigger problems later.

It’s one of the many practical people-management habits we cover in flexion.

Networking… love it or avoid it? 🤔

For many HR professionals, the idea of walking into a room full of strangers and making small talk isn’t exactly appealing. And when you’re building a consultancy, it can feel like something you should be doing… even if it doesn’t feel natural.

But here’s the thing 👇

Networking as an HR consultant doesn’t have to feel forced, awkward, or overly “salesy”.

In our latest article, we’re sharing what actually works (and what really doesn’t), including:
✨ How to have more meaningful conversations
✨ Why consistency matters more than going to everything
✨ Finding the right environments for you
✨ Simple, natural ways to follow up

If you’ve ever wondered how to build relationships locally without feeling like you’re selling yourself, this one’s for you.

Building your profile locally as an HR consultant doesn’t have to mean putting yourself “out there” in a way that feels uncomfortable or forced 😊

In fact, the most effective approach is often much simpler (and far more natural).

In our new article, we’re exploring how small, purposeful local activity can help you become known, trusted and remembered for the right reasons, without feeling salesy or over the top 🤝

It’s not about doing more… it’s about being more intentional in how you show up and the conversations you choose to have 💡

This is the first in our May series on building your presence locally, so keep an eye out for the rest over the coming weeks 👀

If you’re curious, take a few minutes with this one, it might just change how you think about building your presence locally 👇 https://bit.ly/42qcMNL

⚠️ A common management mistake

Trying to be everyone’s friend.

Many new managers worry that giving feedback or addressing issues will damage relationships.

But avoiding those conversations often creates confusion and frustration within the team.

The most respected managers tend to be:
✔️clear
✔️fair
✔️consistent

You don’t need to be everyone’s best friend to build a supportive team culture.

You just need to lead with clarity and respect.

Supporting managers to build this confidence is something we focus on in flexion, our practical training programme for small businesses.

“Speaking to Eleanor as the founder made a big difference…”

Michael joined face2faceHR in August last year, and his experience highlights something that often matters more than anything else when making a change like this 💚

It’s not just the idea of running your own consultancy, it’s knowing there are real people behind the scenes who are there to support you.

From those early conversations, through structured learning, practical tools and regular contact, Michael talks about having the right support to keep him on track from day one 📍

And it’s not just Head Office support either. The wider network of fellow consultants plays a big part too, sharing experience, ideas and reassurance when it’s needed 🤝

If you’re considering a move into HR consultancy, but want to feel supported every step of the way, Michael’s experience is a great example of how that can look in practice 💭
