A tale of two prices.

The seedbed barley fertiliser is around 30% more expensive than it was in January (if you can get it).
The kiln dried Larch behind it is the same price as it was this time last year.
And don't even mention the increase in the cost of heating oil and gas!

Good firewood was always an excellent option for keeping your house warm. Recent events have only reinforced the fact.
And here at Huntlywood the sheds are well stocked with both top quality Larch and Birch, available as always for delivery or collection.

First the snow, then the ice but now at last the Larch and Birch into the sheds so a start can be made to clearing a substantial backlog. It's been a difficult start to 2026.

As some of you may already be aware we lost my partner in the business, Bill Harvie on January 5th after a short illness. Bill had been an integral part of Huntlywood since the beginning almost 15 years ago when we two retired neighbours bought a load of firewood for our own use and to supply our respective families, then finding we had more than enough for ourselves decided to try selling the odd trailer load.
So grew a business which acquired a great number of loyal customers, many of whom we came to regard as friends. The business will continue in the meantime but will never be the same, and I will miss Bill terribly.
Bill's funeral is at Baldarroch crematorium, Banchory on Wednesday 21st at 11:30am.

That'll be the end of summer then. Time to get the garden furniture into winter storage. Time, too, to make sure your woodshed is well stocked.

Luckily, ours are, with plenty of excellent kiln-dried Birch and Larch awaiting collection or delivery.

We're probably past the "well prepared" stage and approaching the "just in time" orders, but it's not too late, get your order in now and don't drift into the "just too late" category..
Waiting until Christmas eve to order the Yule Log is unlikely to be a success!

Barley all gone, shed empty, load of Larch delivered, shed fully stocked. All in the space of a couple of days.
So whether you need kiln-dried Larch or Birch collected or delivered, we have it.

The first batch of this season's barley being loaded for delivery to the maltsters. In five years or maybe longer you could be enjoying the dram that it produces.
The shed won't be empty for long, soon to receive the next load of kiln-dried logs, so no need to wait for them, get your orders in now before the seasonal rush!

Lovely warm days, but still an edge to the wind, and once the sun goes down the evenings have a distinct chill, enough to make the comfort of a cosy fire appealing.
We have ample stocks of kiln-dried Larch and Birch, so if your woodshed is looking a bit bare after winter why not stock up now. Either book a delivery or come and collect any amount from the yard at a discount of £15 per cube.

The loading has begun!
Around 400 tonnes of thinnings heading away to be chipped for biomass over the next few days.
But still plenty of processed kiln-dried hardwood and softwood in store, safe from Eowyn and ready for delivery or collection.

Bring back the Birch!

Don't worry, we haven't joined the "hang'em and flog'em" brigade.

Just relieved to see this 100 cube load of kiln-dried Birch hardwood safely in the shed early on Monday morning after being stuck on our frozen road since Friday night.
Now we can get going playing catch-up with all the postponed deliveries!
Plenty of kiln-dried Larch softwood in stock as well.
Don't settle for wet wood when there's ready to burn quality available.

The internet is awash with scammers, and the firewood supply trade attracts its fair share.

Beware any seller who doesn’t give their location, who doesn’t publicise prices, who insists on answering all queries via private messaging and crucially who insists on up-front payment before delivery.

While payment by bank transfer has become the norm, any legitimate seller will accept cash on delivery. There are plenty of well-established sellers, both local and national who can be relied upon to deliver responsibly.

Don’t be lured into the clutches of a deceiver!
