Furlough scheme to be extended to 31st March at 80% of pay. The Retention Bonus due in January will now be deferred until a later date. The 80% level will be reviewed in January 2021 in line with economic forecasts. Employers will still need to pay Employers NI and Pensions on the furlough value.

All change again!

The expected move follows days of wrangling over the scope and duration of the wage scheme.

The furlough scheme has been extended as part of the Government's plans for a second lockdown. The Job Support Scheme that was due to be implemented tomorrow (1st November 2020) will now be postponed until after the extended furlough scheme ends (currently the 2nd of December). The scheme will fund 80% of non-worked hours up to a cap of £2500 per month, and employers will have to fund NI and pension contributions. Fortunately, employees on an FPS submission as of 23.59 on the 30th October will be eligible for the scheme.

Further details will be released in due course.

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has been extended for a month with employees receiving 80% of their current salary for hours not worked and further economic support announced.

SSP is to be extended so that the usually unpaid 3 waiting days are disregarded in cases where employees need to self-isolate due to suspected Coronavirus infection, with payment beginning with day 1. This is only a temporary measure, and will only apply to Coronavirus related illnesses.

Please make sure you inform your payroll departments if these special rules are to apply as soon as possible as for almost all payroll systems, there will need to be a manual intervention to get the additional to calculate correctly.

SSP is usually only available from the fourth consecutive day of sickness but will be paid from day one of sickness absence in cases relating to coronavirus.
