Inverter Drive Systems

Inverter Drive Systems IDS is one of the UK's largest ABB AVP, Authorised Value Provider. We supply, install, commission, re This is on the old Stanton Staveley iron works site.

Inverter Drive Systems Ltd was founded as an ABB Drives Distributor in 1999 by Blaise Ford, and has grown to be one of the UK's largest ABB AVP, Authorised Value Provider. We are focused simply on the supply and application of ABB inverters and motors. Inverter Drive Systems Ltd has its origins in Wilson Ford Ltd in Nottingham who, under the guidance of Blaise Ford, started as an ABB inverter dis

tributor in 1994. In 1999, IDS was established in Wilford, Nottingham where the company flourished. In 2010, IDS moved into a new industrial unit on Quarry Hill Industrial Estate near Ilkeston, Derbyshire. We have a loyal team, with five of the team originating from the old Wilson Ford days. Nowadays we are 19 strong comprising 7 installation / service engineers, 4 in technical sales and 4 who run the business in the office. Inverters can be a technical product so we offer our customers genuine 24/7 support on technical issues, stock access and breakdowns. We pride ourselves in applying our knowledge and experience of inverters to our customers’ applications to save energy, improve systems or reduce wear and tear. We carry out free site surveys to identify inverter applications, quantify the potential savings, recommend solutions including the control systems and give a turnkey installation price. This report shows the savings you will make, and the time it will take to pay back the capital spent.

When choosing a Variable Speed Drive, the purchase price is only part of the story.
What happens when a drive fails unexpectedly? How quickly can you access support? Is replacement equipment available? Who can help diagnose and resolve problems when they occur?
In many applications, downtime, support and lifecycle costs can have a far greater impact on operational performance than the difference between two initial purchase prices.
Our latest article explores why looking beyond the price tag can help deliver better long-term value.

Most building systems don’t need to run at full speed all the time.
But many still do.
That means:
• Higher energy bills
• Increased wear on equipment
• More reactive maintenance
Variable Speed Drives change that by matching output to real demand.
We’ve put together a practical guide for facilities managers covering:
✔ Where VSDs actually work
✔ What they’re not suitable for
✔ How they improve both efficiency and reliability

Intelligent pump control is not simply about installing a Variable Speed Drive.
True optimisation requires:
• Correct control strategy
• Real-time sensor feedback
• Proper drive specification
• Intelligent multi-pump sequencing
• Ongoing system optimisation
Our latest IDS article explores how intelligent pump control improves efficiency, reliability and operational stability across industrial pumping systems.

Did you know modern Variable Speed Drives can do more than control speed?
In water and wastewater applications, VSDs can:
• Dislodge rag and debris
• Maintain hydraulic efficiency
• Reduce energy consumption
• Minimise unplanned maintenance
Pump cleaning is built into today’s smarter control strategies.

In water and wastewater pumping systems, demand rarely stays constant throughout the day.
Without intelligent control, this can lead to:
• Pressure fluctuations
• Energy waste
• Hydraulic shock
• Increased wear on pumps and infrastructure
• Inefficient multi-pump operation
Our latest article explains how intelligent pump control systems using Variable Speed Drives and real-time feedback help stabilise performance while reducing operational costs.
The article explores:
• PID control strategies
• Multi-pump sequencing
• Flow-to-demand optimisation
• Pressure management
• Energy efficiency improvements
• Asset protection benefits

Most industrial motors run at fixed speed.
Most processes don’t.
That mismatch is where energy is wasted.
Our latest guide explains how Variable Speed Drives control motor speed, reduce energy consumption and improve system reliability, in clear, practical terms.
Whether you’re specifying equipment or managing operating costs, this is a useful reference.
