In my free time, I play for a local grassroots football team, which basically means I spend weekends covered head-to-toe in mud and pretending I'm in the Premier League. I’m a Nottingham Forest fan—yes, by choice—and when I’m not at the gym, you’ll probably find me in the kitchen trying out new recipes (some are even edible).

A client approached us seeking guidance on a flexible working request from a male supervisor wishing to reduce his working week from five days to four, with Fridays off. The challenge was that the client already had another supervisor on a similar schedule, with Fridays off, and wanted to know if they could refuse the request for operational reasons.

Client’s Question:
The client asked whether they could refuse this new request and propose an alternative day instead, given the potential operational challenges.

Advice Given:
After assessing the situation, we advised the client to carefully consider the operational impact—specifically whether both supervisors having Fridays off would leave the site without adequate supervision. We outlined the flexible working process and confirmed that refusing the request was possible if operational needs weren’t met.
