We’ll also be heading to the Harrogate Charity Beer Festival on the 6th March — one of the region’s standout community events.

The Harrogate Charity Beer Festival has always been more than a night out. It’s a brilliant example of how local business communities come together to support good causes while enjoying a fantastic atmosphere.

Organised by https://harrogateroundtable.co.uk/, the festival brings together:
• independent Yorkshire breweries
• craft beers, ciders, wines & gins
• live music and entertainment
• local food and street vendors
• a crowd of people who genuinely care about the region

For us at Burles & Co, events like this are invaluable. They create a relaxed space to reconnect with clients, partners, and friends we don’t always get to see during the working week. And they remind us that community spirit is one of Yorkshire’s greatest strengths.

Plus, every pint supports local charities and community projects — the kind of impact that goes far beyond the festival weekend.

If you’re planning to attend at the Crown Hotel, let us know. It’d be great to catch up, enjoy a drink, and support a brilliant cause together.

Some of the best business conversations don’t happen in boardrooms.
They happen halfway up a climb, at the top of a slope, or during a muddy ride through the Yorkshire hills.

At Burles & Co, we’ve always believed in the value of getting outdoors — not just personally, but professionally too. Sport has a way of breaking down barriers that emails and meeting rooms simply can’t.

When you’re riding, hiking, skiing, or climbing with someone, titles disappear.
People relax.
The conversation flows.
And genuine relationships form.

We’ve seen it time and time again:
• clearer thinking
• better discussions
• stronger trust
• a shared experience that deepens the partnership

And often, the most productive part of the day is the five-minute chat at the top of the slope — where the phones are away, the noise disappears, and everyone speaks honestly.

Outdoor time with clients or team members isn’t a luxury.
It’s a different way of doing business — one that’s more human, more grounded, and far more memorable.

If your team or client relationships need a reset, try taking the next conversation outside. You’d be surprised what gets solved on a trail that never gets solved around a table.

It might be Friday the 13th — unlucky for some — but not for us.
In fact, Steve's daughter was born on Friday the 13th, so we’ve always seen it as a good omen.

A lot of the work we do at Burles & Co never appears on LinkedIn — and that’s exactly how many of our clients prefer it.

We’re often brought in as a confidential partner to support leadership teams, solve internal challenges, or build growth strategies that are sensitive, complex, or simply not ready to be shared publicly.

And that’s absolutely fine by us.

Some of our most meaningful success stories are the ones that stay behind closed doors:
• A family-owned manufacturer preparing for succession
• A retail business rebuilding its sales pipeline quietly
• An engineering firm repositioning its brand ahead of a major tender
• An SME restructuring its leadership team to unlock its next chapter

No noise.
No announcements.
Just clarity, confidence, and measurable outcomes.

Whether a client wants a public case study or complete discretion, we adapt to their world — not the other way around.

Trust is the foundation of every partnership we build.
And sometimes the most impactful work is the work no one ever sees.

If you’re looking for a strategic partner who can work quietly, privately, and with complete confidence, we’d be happy to talk.

We’ll be heading to the Ilkley Beer Festival 🍺 on February 13th — and not just for the beer.

Events like this are always a brilliant reminder of why the Yorkshire business community is so strong. Year after year, the Ilkley Beer Festival brings together people we’ve worked with, collaborated with, or simply not seen in far too long.

For us at Burles & Co, it’s less about networking…
and more about reconnecting:
• catching up with business owners we haven’t seen for a while
• strengthening relationships that matter
• supporting a fantastic local event that brings the community together

In our world, strong relationships beat cold outreach every time. And events like this are where those relationships grow.

If you’re attending on the 13th, drop us a message — it’d be great to say hello over a pint.

And as always, a big thanks to for the invite, much appreciated 😉

A question for every SME owner: Have you actually mapped out your year yet?

January disappears quickly. And we see the same pattern every year — owners rush into tactics, firefighting, and day-to-day noise before stepping back to plan the bigger picture.

But here’s the truth:
Failing to plan is a plan to fail.

A proper roadmap isn’t about creating a shiny presentation. It’s about clarity:
✔️ What are the strategic priorities this year?
✔️ What does success look like?
✔️ Where are the growth levers?
✔️ What must stop as well as start?
✔️ Who is accountable?

When we sit with clients, this is the moment things click.
The noise drops.
The pressure eases.
And the business finally gets direction.

Owners don’t need to have all the answers.
They just need a clear plan they can execute consistently.

If January has flown by and you’ve not created a roadmap yet, send us a message. We’ll help you build a clear, practical plan you can actually stick to.

Most SMEs think they have a marketing problem.
In reality… they have a positioning problem.

We see it constantly:
“We’re running ads, doing social, updating the website — but nothing is landing.”

Activity is not the same as clarity.

Before any campaign, we always ask:
What do you want to be known for — and by whom?

Once that’s clear, everything else becomes easier:
⚡ Messaging sharpens
⚡ Sales teams gain confidence
⚡ Marketing budgets stop leaking
⚡ Customers “get you” instantly

The strongest brands aren’t the loudest.
They’re the clearest.

If your marketing feels busy but ineffective, we’re happy to review your positioning and give you a straight, practical assessment.

Here’s something we remind clients — and ourselves — every January:

Intensity burns out. Consistency compounds.

We’ve worked with enough owner-managed businesses to see the same pattern every year.
Big goals. Big plans. Big pressure.

But the businesses that grow sustainably are the ones that make small, consistent improvements across sales, marketing, and operations.

The same applies personally. We work the hours that give us clarity and performance — then we get out on the bike or the Triumph. That balance doesn’t take us away from the business. It makes us better for it.

This year, instead of asking:
❌ “How much more can we do?”
Try asking:
✔️ “What small things, done consistently, will move the needle every week?”

Momentum comes from consistency, not intensity.

If you want a simple weekly accountability framework, we’re happy to share the one we use with clients.

Every January, we see the same problem in SMEs: leaders jump straight into tactics without any real clarity.

There’s always pressure to “make things happen quickly” — new ads, new hires, new products. But real growth rarely comes from adding more. It comes from simplifying and tightening what already exists.

When we begin working with a business, we look through a strategic lens:
Diagnosis → Research → Strategy → Ex*****on → Review.
Clarity appears quickly once the noise is removed.

Here are the three growth levers we always check first:
1️⃣ Positioning – Are you clearly different, or just louder?
2️⃣ Pipeline health – Do you know where deals slow down?
3️⃣ Conversion – Is the bottleneck your website, messaging, or sales process?

Most SMEs don’t need a revolution. They need a reset.

If you want 2026 to feel calmer, clearer, and more profitable, message us — we’ll happily share the diagnostic template we use.

Every January, thousands of business owners decide, “This year will be different.”

But the truth is:

For over 27 years, we've helped SMEs across manufacturing, engineering, retail and services find the clarity and confidence to scale — without burning themselves out.

If you want 2026 to be the year you:
✔ Build a clear sales & marketing plan
✔ Increase revenue without working more hours
✔ Strengthen your brand and positioning
✔ Stop guessing — start acting with focus
✔ Have someone in your corner who’s done it before

Then a 30-minute clarity call could change your entire trajectory.
