‘“You’re on the verge of hyperventilating,” she said to me.
“Am I?!” I replied in disbelief.
I lay on the bed at the osteopath’s wondering what she was talking about.
I was breathing just how I always did, wasn’t I?
This was 7 years ago.
Struggling with anxiety and panic.
Exhausted.
Stressed.
Brain fog.
Not being able to fall asleep.
I had been to the doctors a few times but been sent away with a cursory “this is just what it is like when you have young children.”
So I thought the problem was me.
Maybe I wasn’t disciplined or resilient enough?
Mentally strong enough?
Another failure to beat myself up with.
It wasn’t until 2020 when I discovered the science and power of breath that I realised why I had been experiencing so many problems.
When we breathe incorrectly, we directly impact our health, longevity and performance.
Very quickly I found that when my brain no longer thought we were under threat every time my breathing changed, my capacity for personal and professional success grew, as my health issues also became more manageable.
