October Club Night Report
The Highland Club met for their October meeting in the usual venue at the Highland Rugby Club in Inverness.
Another large attendance had assembled in anticipation of another evening of excellent entertainment, and they were not to be disappointed.
First up was Heather Lyon on the fiddle. She had backing from Monica Maclean on accordion, Jacquie Macdonald on keyboards and Maggie Jamieson on drums.
First class as ever from Heather.
Young Grace Mohan took advantage of the school holidays and took her box and her Grandad Ernie Randall with his box with her. Grace is only 12 years old and displayed a competence and confidence way beyond her years, and I reckon we will be hearing a lot more from this young lady.
A trip to Forres for our next player. Bob Begg had his melodion and with backing from Jacquie Macdonald on keyboards and Maggie Jamieson on drums, he played a couple of well known medleys. Terrific sound from this wee box.
Time for our guests now and Roddy Matthews had made the long trip up from Northumberland. The renowned fiddle player had supreme accordionist Garry Alexander from Perth and Graeme Maceachern on drums, alongside him.
Wow. They wowed the audience with a rousing performance of pure talent and showmanship. Roddy is a master at the fiddle and managed to squeeze a couple of superbly played slow airs into the programme. Garry is also a master on the accordion and displayed his outstanding talent superbly. The band blended beautifully together and were very well received, and all done without a single note of music in front of them.
After the break, Susie Simpson had Jock Fraser on second box, Murdo Watson on fiddle, Jacquie Macdonald on the keyboards and Maggie Jamieson on drums.
Monica Maclean then took over the stage and Jacquie and Maggie remained in situ.
Jock Fraser filled the last floor player of the evening spot, with Susie Simpson moving over to the keyboards and Maggie Jamieson on drums.
Yet again our floor players excelled. Every single one of them are a credit to the music we all love and we really appreciate their efforts. Thanks guys.
The Highland faithful headed out into the cold air with a real spring in their step.
Yet another great night at the Highland Accordion and Fiddle Club.
