It’s been a sunny one out on site this week, and the team have been making the most of the good weather across the Highlands and Islands.

The team have been busy with:
👷 Site checks and scheduled inspections
🚙 Inductions and essential vehicle upkeep
🦅 Ongoing bird and wildlife surveys
📝 Gate checks and progress updates for ongoing project schedules
🌿 Plenty of time spent outdoors — with some beautiful views along the way!

There’s been plenty of ground covered, and with views like these, the sunshine and blue skies have certainly been appreciated.

Footage of small lighthouse we surveyed on behalf of Northern Lighthouse Board to check whether otters were sheltering on the small island in the Sound of Skye. The footage is of an otter which has caught a flatfish, and it attempting to eat its wriggling prey.

Ecologist/Senior Ecologist (& Environmental Clerk of Works)
Salary: £30,000-£45,000

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and professional Ecologist/Senior Ecologist looking for your next career move. Due to business expansion, you are required to join our growing team, working on a diverse portfolio of projects. Ideally based in the Inverness area with home working and will involve travel across the Highlands & Islands, with overnight stays away. Experience of working as an ECoW on construction sites is essential as is a full driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

Desirable:
A successful track record of completing ornithology/ecology/habitat surveys in Scotland.
Handling and management of ecological survey data and report writing skills.
Knowledge of ecological planning requirements such as preparation of Management Plans/Monitoring Plans/CEMPs.
Ongoing training opportunities, generous annual leave, and supportive working environment.
Job Share & Part time possible.

This video is part of monitoring a breeding sett inside an upcoming housing development in Inverness. The footage shows one of the adults dragging bedding in the form of dry grass from nearby into the sett, which keeps the sett fresh and reduces parasites. The old bedding was dragged out, just out of sight of the camera. Interesting method of moving the bedding, which is nearby as big as the badger.
