Mucky Boots: Wild Skills 🌿

Wild Skills will be our new hands-on bushcraft sessions for flexi-schooled and home-educated young people from S1–S4 who love being outdoors and want to learn practical skills.

Each week will focus on a different bushcraft skill, craft or woodland activity, with the opportunity to build on skills and progress through regular attendance.

These will be small and flexible, drop-off sessions, starting with just 6 spaces so we can provide a high level of support as young people develop their skills.

With the potential to progress towards more advanced skills and accredited courses in the future.

Interested in a Forest & Outdoor Learning Qualification?

Is your child aged 11–17 and loves spending time outdoors?

Fireflies Nurture and Thrive are delighted to be taking part in a pilot project with Newbattle Abbey College and OWL North East Scotland, offering young people the chance to work towards a FOLA (Forest and Outdoor Learning Award) at SCQF Level 2 or 3, with opportunities to progress to Levels 4 and 5 in future.

✨ No written work or exams
✨ Practical, hands‑on outdoor learning
✨ A supportive, nature‑based environment
✨ Perfect for young people who thrive outside

All that’s needed is a willingness to learn, take part, and enjoy being outdoors.

Good luck to all our families heading back to school this week.

From those starting P1, to any year or teaching staff hope you all have a great first week back.

No back to school in this household this year, one starting college and another back to university for second year. As for me this is quiet week ahead of a very busy term to come.

Please always remember not all classrooms work for everyone and I can't wait to see all the pupils I work with in our woodland settings. Nature offers an amazing learning backdrop too 💚

My site 4 years ago!

This is where my story started at my site. Love spending time here and new from day 1 it had a special energy. Looking forward to term ahead and getting back to my site more often.

It's great to look back to see how far you have come.
