Insurance policies are indeed popular. Around 1 in 3 workers want employers to introduce them according to a new survey from insurance adviser Drewberry.

Mental illnesses already represent 25% of the total health issues in the country. Low levels of mental health are exacerbated by many social conditions, including financial stresses, unemployment, pressure at work and disasters.

So we can see that further lockdown measures are likely to have a marked impact on the mental health of the population, as the pandemic exposes us to all of these factors. Throw into the mix the loss of social support from friends, family and work colleagues, and reduced access to mental health services, and it’s no wonder that nearly 70% of adults report being worried about the effect of Covid on their lives.

Now, of course, temp workers are widely used to allow businesses to respond to peaks and troughs and cover staffing shortages. We are writing at the time of another lockdown, and the resulting caution that will remain in business for a while, thanks to the double whammy of the pandemic and Brexit, has an upside for temporary workers.

And we can guess that there may be an increase in such positions as businesses tentatively look at their staffing levels when we start to get the pandemic under control.
