🛑 Enough is Enough: Violence Against Security Workers Must Be Treated as a Stand-Alone Offence 🛑

From nightclub doors to supermarket aisles, hospital wards to prison wings — front-line security staff are being abused, assaulted, and threatened with alarming regularity.

Recent headlines tell a shocking story:

🔹 A drunk man threatened to shoot a female door supervisor in Mansfield after being refused entry (https://www.workingthedoors.co.uk/drunk-threatened-to-shoot-female-door-supervisor-after-he-was-refused-entry-to-mansfield-nightclub/?)
🔹 A nurse on a hen do punched a bouncer then hurled a homophobic slur as she was ejected (https://www.workingthedoors.co.uk/nurse-on-hen-do-called-bouncer-a-ft-as-he-threw-her-out-after-punching-him/?)
🔹 A man spat on a supermarket guard, broke a woman’s jaw and walked away with a conditional sentence (https://lnkd.in/gP8VnADA)
🔹 Two prison officers were almost killed by inmates in separate attacks (https://www.expressandstar.com/uk-news/2025/03/28/dangerous-inmate-locked-up-indefinitely-for-attempting-to-kill-prison-officers/?)

And the outcomes? All too often nothing but slaps on the wrist. Suspended sentences. Conditional discharges.

Security officers are not second-class protectors. We guard lives, property, and the public — often stepping in where others hesitate. Yet when we are assaulted, the law does not provide equal protection.

We already have specific protections for:
Emergency workers
Retail workers (in Scotland via the Protection of Workers Act 2021)
NHS staff

It’s time to recognise security professionals under the law with similar protections. A stand-alone offence for violence against private security personnel would send a clear message that attacks on our profession are not just “part of the job”.

Sign the Petition today - be the difference!

Make assaulting a security worker a standalone offence:

No more excuses. No more looking the other way.

UK Terror threat level upgraded to SEVERE

12/06/2026

➡️ The National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) has guidance available on mitigating terrorist threats at venues during entry and exit procedures.

Crowds can become targets of terrorist attacks, especially during events at popular venues, with the entry and exit points particularly vulnerable.
The guidance provides various strategies to reduce these risks and can help with planning and preparation to ensure people visiting venues and attending events remain safe.

For more information, visit the NPSA website: https://orlo.uk/rryw6

Today we published our Strategic Plan 2026-29, covering our upcoming expanded remit, and our Business Plan 2026-27, focusing on delivery over the next year.

We are setting an ambitious course over the next 3 years with the release of our new strategic plan. Our plans mark the significant expansion of our remit, as we prepare to regulate premises for the first time under Martyn’s Law, alongside our existing responsibilities over private security. This will see the SIA play an enhanced role in the regulation of the UK’s protective security landscape.

Our purpose, to keep people and places safe and secure by regulating the private security industry and venues across the UK, will be at the forefront of everything we do.

Are you preparing for Martyn's Law? Join our webinar — the last session of the series is today 2pm to 2.45pm

We're inviting all organisations expected to be within scope of Martyn's Law, or with an interest in it, to review and comment on our draft section 12 statutory guidance.

This is your chance to hear directly from our Martyn's Law team, get clarity on how we intend to operate as regulator, and ask questions.

This is an important opportunity to help shape the guidance.
