Local Suffolk Business has FB Business Manager 'Hacked'
This is the first case I've heard of affecting a local business, so felt I should post to warn others ...
These 'hackers' have been targeting large, national businesses with high account spending limits, however it seems nobody is safe!
HOW IT WORKS:
Once they have your login credentials, they login to your Facebook Business Manager and create Ads for products/services that are against FB's advertising policies.
(Think viagra/extensions/pharmaceuticals etc)
They set the daily budget as high as possible to spend as much as possible before the Ads are either 'flagged' by the system or your payment processor refuses the payments.
If you have an account with good standing, ie: no past ad disapprovals, then the Ads can go live very quickly.
This has hit larger companies with huge payments, but now it seems, local businesses are being targeted too!
(The sums involved will hurt local businesses far harder).
WHAT TO DO?:
If this happens to you and your account is still actively spending, turn off and delete the campaigns in your Ads Manager.
Send a support ticket to Facebook to explain what has happened and you'll likely receive a refund/credit of any payment(s).
CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD
If the 'hack' has run it's course, then like the local business I've been speaking with today, you'll likely be locked out of your account.
You'll see a red banner stating: Ad Account Disabled
You'll need to raise a support ticket with Facebook, explain what's happened and after they have reviewed your account will grant you access again.
CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD
HOW TO PREVENT:
CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD ... REGULARLY!
These 'hackers' can only access your business manager using your profile credentials.
You can also set up 2FA on your account, link below ...
I hope this helps, stay safe!
