You’ve probably walked past it a hundred times - but how often have you actually looked up at it?
Caledonian House isn’t just another building on the corner of High Street and Bank Street - it’s a proper local landmark - and it’s been part of Irvine life for generations.
Back in the day this corner was home to the Caledonian Arms - listed at 110 High Street in late-Victorian directories.
Then it became the Co-operative building - what most locals still call the “Caley Halls”. This wasn’t just a hall - it was the place for weddings, birthdays, dances, meetings, work nights out - the kind of building half the town has a story inside.
Today, the ground floor is home to Iceland - and upstairs the building has moved into its next chapter as a business centre - still busy, just in a different way - filled with local thriving businesses.
Got a memory of the Caley Halls - a wedding, a party, a night out? Drop it in the comments - names and stories welcome.
