( Another sad message in , another very young life lost ๐, I thank everyone that allows me to share their story to raise awareness for young drivers ๐)
Please be very mindful of your comments on these posts , I request respect for their loved ones ๐
๐ Killed by a Young Driver a Day After Passing His Test ๐
Eighteen-year-old Simon Evans was known as a gentle giant.
Loved. Hard-working. Full of potential.
But on a March night in Shropshire, his life ended instantly when the car he was a passenger in hit a tree at high speed.
The driver had passed his test just the day before.
Three teenagers lost their lives.
A fourth was left with life-changing injuries.
All were wearing seatbelts.
Investigators later confirmed that the young driver had switched off traction control and was driving far beyond safe limits.
His โnaรฏve actionsโ ended three futures before they even began.
Simonโs parents, Dave and Sue Evans, have since shared their heartbreak publicly describing how part of them died that night.
Their plea is simple: introduce a Progressive Driving Licence system.
Theyโre calling for:
โ ๏ธ A restriction on carrying same age passengers for the first 6 months after passing.
โ ๏ธ Limits on engine size and power for new drivers.
Because if that law had existed, Simon would still be here today.
The UK is one of the few developed countries without a proper graduated licence system.
In places like Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Canada new drivers face structured restrictions that reduce deaths and serious injuries.
It works.
It saves lives.
We need education, not punishment.
We need safer limits, not freedom too soon.
We need to give our new drivers a chance to mature before they carry the lives of their friends on board.
๐ Simon should still be here.
๐ His parents should not have to campaign through their grief.
Every young life lost on our roads is one too many.
Itโs time to bring in a Progressive Licensing in the UK.
Because โpassed the testโ should never mean โready for anything.โ
Thank you to the parents for allowing me to share their beloved sons story ๐
