Yesterday, Bedford Community Fire Station and Kempston Community Fire Station Red Watch were joined by crews from Olney and Broughton fire stations from Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service for a training exercise at Cranfield University.

Working alongside neighbouring fire and rescue services helps us strengthen the skills, knowledge and relationships that are vital when responding to incidents across our borders.

Their training involves talking to people in crisis and you may see people at height, so please do not be alarmed.

A huge congratulations to Watch Manager Cadet Tulah Nixon who has been selected as Bedfordshire Lieutenancy's Fire Cadet for 2026/27, representing Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service 👏

Tulah, from Sandy Fire Cadets, was chosen in recognition of her outstanding commitment, positive attitude and enthusiasm.

In her new role, she will have the opportunity to support His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant Mrs Susan Lousada at civic ceremonies, commemorative events and community occasions throughout the coming year.

Would you know what to do if you came across a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle?

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service runs free Biker Down courses throughout the year to enable motorcyclists and other road users to take potentially life-saving action if they are first on the scene.

There are just two courses left for 2026:

- Saturday 17 October (10am-2pm)
- Saturday 14 November (10am-2pm)

Crews are at an incident in University Way, Cranfield. Nearby residents are advised to close their windows and doors if affected by the smoke.

Our newest recruits are still going strong💪

The latest cohort have just completed week two of their intensive 13-week course to become wholetime firefighters.

This week saw them take on a range of drills involving hoses and pumps, as well as aircraft and railway incidents.

We look forward to seeing them develop their skills further as the course progresses!

A huge congratulations to our very own Vincent Archer from Biggleswade Community Fire Station who completed the annual Tunnel to Towers 5k run in a stormy New York City on Sunday 27 September!

More than 35,000 people took part in the event which symbolises firefighter Stephen Siller’s final footsteps from the foot of the Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers on 11 September 2001.

Vincent, pictured with Stephen's brother Frank, said: “Being the 25th anniversary I think it was more emotional than it has been in previous years, but everyone was helping each other get through the race and cheering on from the side which was great.”

He was joined by Hertfordshire firefighters Mark Burgess and Lee Campbell who all managed to raise over £4,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Great effort, guys 👏
